Josh Holloway Bio
An actor with over 30 credits to his name, who rose to prominence after his portrayal of James ‘Sawyer’ Ford in the series “Lost“, Josh Lee Holloway was born under the zodiac sign of Cancer on 20 July 1969, in San Jose, California USA; he holds American nationality and comes from a family of German, Scottish, English and Irish descent.
Besides the mentioned role, Josh is known for starring in numerous series and movies, including “Mission: Impossible-Ghost Protocol”, “Sabotage”, and “Paranoia” – one of his notable television roles was his portrayal of Roarke Morris in the series “Yellowstone”, from 2020 until 2021.
When the third season of the western melodrama series “Yellowstone” ended, the audience was shocked by the death of Roarke Morris, and when in the fourth season people realized that they wouldn’t be enjoying the performance of the actor who portrayed this character, they wanted to know the reason for his leaving, saying that the death of this character made no sense.
Although there was no official explanation why this character was written out of “Yellowstone”, the fans of the series assumed that one of the reasons was Caroline Warner joining the series, and when it was announced that Josh Holloway had a role in a new Home Box Office (HBO) Max series, entitled “Duster”, many of his fans assumed that this might be the reason for leaving the show.
Early life and education
Josh was raised in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Georgia by his parents – his mother was a nurse, and his father was a surveyor. When Josh was two years old, the family moved to Free Home, Georgia, where Josh spent most of his childhood alongside his three brothers, whose names he hasn’t revealed.
From an early age, Josh was a big fan of movies, and although he hadn’t dreamed about becoming an actor, it seems that destiny had other plans for him.
Josh attended Cherokee High School in Georgia, and upon matriculating in 1987, he enrolled at the University of Georgia, however, he dropped out of college due to financial problems.
He moved to Los Angeles, California, and launched his modeling career, working for brands such as Donna Karan, Calvin Klein, and Dolce & Gabbana, and then in 1993, he made an appearance in the music video for the song “Cryin'” by Aerosmith, and subsequently, Josh started auditioning.
Roles in series
Making his acting debut as a Good Looking Guy in an episode of the series “Angel“ in 1999, Josh launched his acting career, and two years later, he was seen as Ben Wiley in “Walker, Texas Ranger” alongside Chuck Norris, followed by his role as Kenny Richmond in “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” in 2003, and next guest-starred in “NCIS”, “Good Girls Don’t…”, and “The Lyon’s Den”.
He was then cast to play his most notable role, for now, as James ‘Sawyer’ Ford in “Lost”. His performance in the series brought him 21 award nominations, and he won three, including the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films, USA Saturn Award for Best Actor on Television in 2010, when the last season of the series was aired.
In 2011, Josh made an appearance as Black Rider in an episode of the series “Community”, before he was cast to play Gabriel Vaughn in “Intelligence” in 2014, then from 2016 until 2018, he portrayed Will Bowman in the series “Colony”, before in 2020 being cast to play Roarke Morris in “Yellowstone”.
Concurrently, Josh was seen as Wayne Wilkes in “Amazing Stories” (2020), and as The Sheriff in “Blackout” (2021), and as mentioned, he’ll be seen alongside Gail O’Grady and Sean Dillingham in the new series “Duster”, which is currently in post-production.

Josh made his first big-screen appearance portraying Sean in the 2001 movie “Cold Heart”, also starring Nastassja Kinski and Jeff Fahey, followed by his roles in the movies “Moving August” and “Mi Amigo” in 2002, while in the following year, Josh portrayed Pheb in the comedy drama “Dr. Benny”.

Josh hasn’t been the subject of any rumors or controversies concerning his love life, since he’s managed to keep his personal matters away from the media’s attention. However, it’s widely known that he’s a married man, to Yessica Kumala.
According to sources, she was born on 2 September 1978, in Jakarta, Indonesia, and comes from a family of Chinese descent. She worked in a bar before she met Josh, in one of the Los Angeles’ night clubs in 2002 – as Yessica said, she was the one who took the first step, and asked for his number.
After two years of dating, Josh and Yessica married on 1 October 2004, and five years later, they became parents for the first time when Yessica gave birth to their daughter Java Kumala, while their son, Hunter Lee, was born in 2014.
As of May 2022, Josh and Yessica are still together, and the family of four lives on the island of Oahu, Hawaii.
