American actor and screenwriter Jonathan ‘Jon’ Seda was born in Manhattan, New York City USA, on 14 October 1970, making his zodiac sign Libra. He’s had roles in nearly 60 movies and TV series, and is probably best known for his playing of Antonio Dawson (2014-2019) in the popular action crime series “Chicago P. D.”, which Derek Haas and Michael Brandt created, and which today stars Marina Squerciati, Patrick John Flueger and Jason Beghe. It follows the police officers who are working at the Chicago Police Department’s District 21, the series has been airing since 2014 and has won four of its 11 award nominations.
Although this hasn’t been confirmed by Jon, it’s widely believed that he didn’t quit “Chicago P. D.” because he wanted to, but because the show’s writers believed that there were ‘creative differences’ between them, thus choosing to write Jon out of the show.
Education and early life
Jon and his sister Sofia Seda were raised in Manhattan by their Puerto Rican parents Hector L. Seda and Dharma Marrero Seda; Hector was a pastor, while Dharma was a housewife.
He studied at Clifton High School, and was mostly interested in playing sports during his four years there, excelling at football, and also enjoying wrestling, basketball and running track. He matriculated in 1989, and was then convinced by his friends to start working out at the gym, and to take on boxing.
Jon moved to New Jersey and entered many boxing competitions, and eventually finished second in the race for the New Jersey Golden Gloves; he fought in a total of 22 amateur boxing matches, losing only one.

Jon’s debut film appearance was in the 1992 romantic drama “Zebrahead”, and he gained recognition in the following year with his portrayal of Dominican in the crime thriller drama “Carlito’s Way”. Between 1997 and 1999, he portrayed Paul Falsone in the popular mystery crime drama “Homicide: Life on the Street”, created by Paul Attanasio, and which starred Richard Belzer, Clark Johnson and Yaphet Kotto. Between 2012 and 2019, Jon portrayed Antonio Dawson in the action drama “Chicago Fire”, which Derek Haas and Michael Brandt created, and which stars Eamonn Walker, Christian Stolte and Taylor Kinney. The series follows the lives of Chicago paramedics and firefighters, has been airing since 2012, and has won six of its 29 award nominations.
Jon’s most recent TV series role has been his playing of Sam Velez in the mystery science fiction drama “La Brea” since 2021.
