Who is Megan Follows?

An actress with nearly 100 acting credits to her name, Megan Follows is still perhaps known best for her role as Anne Shirley in the TV mini-series “Anne of Green Gables”, and its sequels “Anne of Avonlea” and “Anne of Green Gables: The Continuing Story”; her portrayal of Anne Shirley brought her two Gemini Awards for Best Performance by a Lead Actress in a Dramatic Program or Mini-Series, in 1987 and ‘88, and the same year she was also nominated for the CableACE Award for Actress in a Movie or Miniseries.

Besides the mentioned role, Megan was seen starring in numerous series and movies, such as “Silver Bullet”, “Christmas Child” and “Hard Drive”.

Early and education

Megan Elizabeth Laura Diana Follows was born under the zodiac sign of Pisces on 14 March 1968, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, thus she holds Canadian nationality and her ethnicity is White.

Megan was raised in Toronto by her father Ted Follows, a Canadian actor and director, and by her mother Dawn Greenhalgh, a Canadian actress, as the youngest of her three siblings, Edwin, who is a writer, while Laurence and Samantha are both in the acting profession.

Megan reprised her role in the 1987 sequel “Anne of Avonlea”, and then in the early ‘90s, Megan appeared in numerous series, such as “Second Chances” (1993-1994), “The Outer Limits” (1995), “Murder, She Wrote” (1995), and in “Big Wolf on Campus” (1999).

In 2000, she reprised her role as Anne Shirley in the second sequel “Anne of Green Gables: The Continuing Story”, and then, two years later, Megan was seen as Dana’s Doctor in the drama “Strong Medicine”, created by Whoopi Goldberg and Tammy Ader, before in 2005 being cast to play Janice Keneally in “Robson Arms”.

From 2009 until 2021, Megan had the recurring part of Lily Borden in the series “Heartland”, which brought her the Directors Guild of Canada for Family Series in 2020.

From 2013 until 2017, Megan had a recurring role as Catherine de Medici in the popular drama fantasy “Reign”, created by Laurie McCarthy, also starring Celina Sinden and Adelaide Kane -this role brought her the nomination for Canadian Screen Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Continuing Leading Dramatic Role, in 2015 and ’16.

Megan made her movie debut in the 1980 short movie “Clare’s Wish”, followed by her role in “The Mating Season” in the same year, and then she was cast to play Sal in the 1981 short movie “The Olden Days Coat”.

The ‘90s saw Megan in numerous movies, including “Back to Hannibal: The Return of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn” (1990), “When Pigs Fly ” (1993), “Reluctant Angel” (1997), and “What Katy Did” (1999) among others, while in the early 2000s she was starring in “Foreign Affair” (2003), “Christmas Child” (2004), and then as Sharon Twain in “Shania: A Life in Eight Albums” which brought her the nomination for the Gemini Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Supporting Role in a Dramatic Program or Mini-Series in 2006.

In the following years, Megan mostly starred in TV movies such as “Lie to Me” (2009), and was then seen in several short movies, before she was cast to play Barbara in “Hard Drive” in 2014, followed by her role as Diane in the 2019 movie “Lie Exposed”, also starring Bruce Greenwood and Benjamin Ayres, which was her most recent role.

Love life and relationships

There’ve been various rumors concerning both Megan’s love life and her sexual orientation, however, it is widely known that she was married to Cristopher Porter, a Canadian photographer.

The two met on the set of “Deep Sleep” in 1990, and eventually started dating. Megan and Christopher exchanged their wedding vows on 27 April 1991, in a secret location, in the presence of their closest family members and friends.

In the same year, they welcomed their daughter Lyla Anne Porter, and their son, Russell Porter was born in 1994. Although Megan and Christopher seemed like a happy couple, they divorced on 18 January 1996.

Soon afterwards, Megan started dating Stuart Hughes, an actor known best for his role in the horror movie “It”. The two were engaged from 1996 until 2010, then split for unknown reasons.

As of July 2022, it seems that Megan is single, was once married, and has two children.
