Who is Matt Letscher?
One of the biggest film hits in the late ‘90s was “The Mask of Zorro”, and besides the stars of this adventure comedy action, one of the actors who was remembered for his role is Matt Letscher as Captain Harrison Love, a sadistic, ruthless man with a evil sense of humor; for his virtuoso acting, Matt was nominated for the Blockbuster Entertainment Award-Favorite Villain in 1999.
Besides the aforementioned role, he has over 80 acting credits to his name, and is perhaps known best for his role as Eobard Thawne in the series “The Flash” and “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow”. Matt is also a director and playwright – his most notable play, “Gaps in the Fossil Record” gained international fame.
Early life and education
Matthew ‘Matt’ Letscher was born under the zodiac sign of Cancer on 26 June 1970, in Grosse Pointe, Michigan USA; he holds American nationality, although he comes from a family of English, German, and Irish descent.
He was raised in his hometown by his parents Katherine Marie and David Paul Letscher, alongside his two brothers Aaron and Brian, the latter also an actor, known for his role as Tom Larsen in the series “Scandal”, in which Matt also starred, but they didn’t share a scene.
Matt had an interest in acting from an early age, saying that his high school drama teacher was the one who inspired him to continue with acting after he finished high school, adding that it all started when he realized that he wasn’t awesome in athletics, so he was looking for something to do; acting came up, and he found a passion for it. He also credits his acting teacher, Uta Hagen, who gave him the confidence to pursue an acting career.
Speaking of his educational background, Matt attended a local high school, and upon matriculating in 1988, he enrolled at the University of Michigan, from which he graduated with a BA degree in 1992.

Matt made his acting debut in 1993, portraying Rick in an episode of the series “Saved by the Bell: The College Years”, and then guest-starred in numerous series in the following years, including “Ellen”, “The Watcher” and “Silk Stalkings”, before he was cast to play Rob Paley in “Almost Perfect”, from 1995 until 1997.
Next, he was seen as Will Marek in “Living in Captivity” in 1998, followed by his role as Kevin Noris in “Providence” in 2002, and he then portrayed Gavin Stone” in “Good Morning, Miami” until 2004. Concurrently, Matt starred as Eric Garret in “Joey” (2004-2005), followed by his role in “The New Adventures of Old Christine” during 2006 and 2007.
In the following years, Matt made appearances in “Eli Stone” (2008-2009), “Entourage” (2009), and “Brothers & Sisters” (2009-2010), and then he was seen in the 2012 TV mini-series “Bent”, before he was cast to play Billy Chambers in “Scandal” (2012-2013).
Matt was seen as Tom Bradshaw in the series “The Carrie Diaries” during 2013 and 2014, and he then portrayed Joseph P. Kennedy in “Boardwalk Empire”, before he starred in the comedy “One & Done” which he created – the series was nominated for the New Media Film Festival Award in 2015.
It seems that 2015 was a good year for Matt, since he was cast to play his most notable television role to date, as Eobard Thawne/Reverse-Flash in “The Flash” (2015-2022), and concurrently he reprised this role as a series regular in “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow” (2016-2022), while he was also seen starring as James Kuykendall in “Narcos: Mexico” (2018-2021), and as William Randolph in “The Alienist” (2020).

Roles in movies
Matt made his big-screen debut in the 1993 movie “Gettysburg”, followed by his roles in “Not This Part of the World” (1994) and “Lovelife” (1997), before his breakthrough role as Captain Harrison Love in “The Mask of Zorro” (1998), also starring Antonio Banderas, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Anthony Hopkins, which was nominated for two Oscars for Best Sounds, and Best Effects, Sound Effects Editing.
In the following years, Matt starred in “I’ll Wave Back” (2000) and “Madison” (2001), and then appeared in several TV movies, before he was cast to play Adelbert Ames in “Gods and Generals” in 2003, followed by his roles in “Identity” (2003), “Straight-Jacket”(2004), and “Heart of the Beholder” (2005).
Two years later, Matt portrayed Gil Hines in “Towelhead”, and was next seen starring in numerous TV movies, including “Amish Grace”, which brought him the MovieGuide Grace Award for Most Inspiring Television Acting in 2011.
Some of Matt’s notable movie appearances have been in “Devil’s Knot” and “Her” both in 2013, “Teacher of the Year” (2014), and “Day Out of Days” in 2015, while his most recent role was in the 2019 horror “Countdown”.
Love life and relationships
Matt hasn’t been the subject of any rumors or controversies concerning either his love life or his sexual orientation; it’s widely known that he is a married man, his wife is Jennifer Kathleen Price, about whom little is known except that she was his long-term girlfriend, and that the two married on 5 September 1998. They are blessed with two sons whose names haven’t been revealed, since Matt prefers to keep his family away from the media’s attention.
As of July 2022, Matt is still married, and lives with his family in their residence near Los Angeles, California.
