Who is Fernando Colunga?
Mexican actor and stuntman Fernando Colunga Olivares was born in Mexico City, on 3 March 1966, meaning that his zodiac sign Pisces. He’s had roles in over 30 movies and TV series, and is probably still best known for his playing the main character Alejandro Toledo in the 2007 action adventure comedy movie “Ladron que Roba a Ladron”, written by JoJo Henrickson, directed by Joe Menendez and which also starred Miguel Varoni and Julie Gonzalo. The film follows two former thieves, who’ve reunited to rob the mean TV infomercial guru Moctesuma Valdez.
Fernando’s still quite active in the film industry, and has recently appeared in an episode of the crime series “El Secreto de la Familia Greco”, and the drama “The Count: Love and Honor”, both released in 2022.
Education and early life
Fernando was raised an only child in Mexico City, by his mother Dona Margarita Olivares who was a housewife, and father Don Fernando Colunga whose profession remains undisclosed, while it’s believed that he was a businessman.
Fernando became interested in acting at the age of eight, when he began watching telenovelas on a daily basis with his mother, however, his parents wanted him to pursue a college degree, claiming that it was nearly impossible to succeed in the film industry.
Fernando thus focused on his studies, and was mostly into playing sports and being physically active during his teenage years. He matriculated in 1984, and then enrolled at University of Mexico, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in civil engineering in 1988.
Roles in movies
Fernando’s debut film appearance was in the 1988 action “La Guerrera Vengadora”, but his following movie role only came in 1995, when cast to play Arturo in the romantic fantasy comedy “Besame en la Boca”, written and directed by Abraham Cherem, and which starred Paulina Rubio, Charlie Masso and Dolores Beristain. It follows millionaire Claudia Romero who died in a road accident after someone had sabotaged her motorcycle, while she’s now returned from heaven as a simple middle-class girl.
In 1998, Fernando was cast to play Carlos Daniel Bracho in the drama “Mas alla de la Usurpadora”, and his next movie role was in the above mentioned 2007 comedy “Ladron que Roba a Ladron”.

He’s since had only a single movie role: he portrayed Alejandro Toledo in the 2015 comedy “Ladrones”, directed by Joe Menendez, and in which Fernando starred alongside Eduardo Yanez and Cristina Rodlo. It follows thief Alejandro Toledo who’s teamed up with another thief in an attempt to return the land stolen from a hard-working community; the movie won one of its two award nominations.
Roles in TV series
Fernando’s debut TV series role was his playing of Luis in the 1990 episode “Los Mantenidos” of the science fiction horror thriller “La Telarana”, and the following year saw him appear in an episode of both the romantic musical drama “Alcanzar Una Estrella II”, and the romantic drama “Madres Egoistas”.
In 1992 and 1993, he portrayed Chicho in the romantic drama “Maria Mercedes”, which starred Thalia, Arturo Peniche and Carmen Salinas, and follows Maria Mercedes who’s selling lottery tickets for a living, and is now being used by a wealthy man who only wants to make his family miserable.
In 1995 and 1996, Fernando starred as Luis Fernando de la Vega, alongside Thalia and Rebeca Manriquez, in the popular romantic drama “Humble Maria”, which follows a poor girl who’s fallen in love with a wealthy misogynist boy. A couple of Fernando’s roles in the remainder of the ‘90s were in the 1997 romantic drama “Esmeralda”, the 1998 romantic drama “La Usurpadora” and the 1999 action adventure drama “Nunca te Olvidare”, in all of which he played lead characters.
In 2000 and 2001, he played Carlos Manuel Rivero in the romantic drama “Abrazame muy Fuerte”, starring alongside Victoria Ruffo and Aracely Arambula; the series follows wealthy Cristina who has just lost her sight, and is forced to send her daughter away. What also marked the 2000s for Fernando was playing the lead character Rícardo de Salamanca y Almonte – ‘El Antillano’ – in the 2008 romantic drama “Pasion”, which also starred Susana Gonzalez and Daniela Castro, and follows a poor girl who’s fallen in love with a pirate in 1740s Mexico.

In 2012 and 2013, Fernando starred as Jesus Garcia in the comedy drama “Porque el Amor Manda”, and most recently, in 2016, he portrayed the main character Eladio in the drama “Passion and Power”, starring alongside Susana Gonzalez and Jorge Salinas; the series follows two wealthy men who’ve fallen for the same woman.
Fernando worked as a stuntman on 97 episodes of the series “Sweet Challenge” in 1988 and ‘89.
He featured in the 2005 documentary movie “Celebremos Mexico: Hecho en Mexico”, the TV special “Premios TV y Novelas 2008”, and the 2012 TV special “Premios Juventud”.

Fernando won a 2003 TV y Novelas Award for Best Actor, for his performance in “Amor Real”.
Love life and wife
Even though Fernando prefers to keep the details of his love life to himself, it’s still widely known that he’s today a married man. He exchanged vows with Mexican actress and film producer Blanca Soto in 2019, in a large ceremony attended by over 300 of their family members and friends. Blanca’s had roles in 11 movies and TV series, and is probably best known for her performances in the 2010 romantic series “Eva Luna”, the 2010 comedy film “Dinner for Schmucks”, and the 2019 action crime movie “You Cannot Hide”.
Fernando and Blanca don’t have children together, as they’re both currently focused on their careers, but age may be a factor sooner rather than later!
He hasn’t spoken about the women whom he had dated prior to meeting Blanca, to whom Fernando’s married as of November 2022, and doesn’t have children.

Fernando began practicing martial arts when he was nine years old, and has been taking lessons to his day.
He’s also a businessman, as he has his own car parts shop.
