What’s Happened To Fred Lewis From “Gold Rush”?

Published

on

“Gold Rush” is a reality television series airing on Discovery Channel that follows the exploits of several family-owned businesses as they go about their search for gold and other minerals. Generally, the show concentrates on placer mining, which is a method of searching for gold in stream beds by applying open pit excavations or numerous other methods.

While the first season of “Gold Rush” took place in the Klondike region of Dawson City, Yukon, Canada, later filming of the show moved to places that include South America, Africa, and other parts of North America including Alaska.

With the show now currently airing its 13th season, which premiered in September 2022, it’s clear that the exploits, drama, and excitement in the daily lives of placer miners seem to provide riveting entertainment for the show’s expansive audience.

In fact, “Gold Rush” even launched no less than eight spin-off series and featured numerous after-shows and specials that allowed viewers further insights into the placer mining industry, as well as the exploits of their favourite mining crews.

Of course, as many of the viewers have seen in the show, and one could naturally guess, mining for gold can be an extremely profitable business. The leading company, and also the current season’s strongest competitor, Parker Schnabel, boasts millions of dollars in profits earned over the period of several seasons, including the latest thirteenth season.

However, as much as one can make money in the placer mining industry, there are still many dangers involved, and quite often the mining exploits don’t turn out to be as profitable a gamble as the mining crews would hope.

As such, viewers would have seen miners come and go on the show, some hitting the jackpot, while others wash out in miserable failures, and the latest season of “Gold Rush” is no different. Quite possibly, “Gold Rush” viewers might see one of their favourite stars leave the show – it seems that Fred Lewis’ luck in excavations could be running out this season, and his fans might soon be bidding him and his crew farewell.

Who Is Fred Lewis?

Although easily mistaken for one of the stars of “Vikings”, due to his majestic facial hair, Fred went from being one of “Gold Rush’s” avid fanatics to becoming one of the show’s prominent stars. Fred first appeared in “Gold Rush” in 2019 in the ninth season, forming part of Parker Schnabel’s crew, and since worked his way up to eventually leading his own crew.

Born in 1977 in Dresden Mills, Maine, USA, Fred spent his early life living in a small logging community with his brother Mike, where they lived on the family farm helping their dad raise livestock, as well as a garden. Following his matriculation from Wiscasset High School, just outside of Dresden Mills, Fred enlisted into the US Army, Fred served eventually as a Green Beret, completing his training as a Medical Sergeant for the US Special Forces, and Lewis completing several tours in Iraq, Afghanistan, Korea and Africa, where he learned to easily diffuse stressful situations. While part of the US Military, Fred specialised in learning four different languages, which include Norwegian, Korean and German, making him quite a colourful character.

It was during the time that he trained in linguistics, that Fred met his wife, Khara, who also served in the military. On 27 May 2006, Fred and Khara tied the knot, and have been married since, sharing four children from their union, specifically two boys and two girls. While his personal life remains private, Fred doesn’t shy away from sharing pictures of his family on his Instagram, but the details of his family life stay under wraps.

Unfortunately, according to certain reports, while touring in Iraq, Fred became the target of a sniper who shot him in the helmet. Luckily, the incident didn’t cost him his life, but according to reports, he sustained a bad head injury which caused him to suffer seizures and short-term memory loss.

Because of this, Fred left the military on a medical discharge, and spent some time at home to recover. To his good fortune, he quickly regained his health and was able to move on with his life.

After leaving the army, under encouragement from his brother Mike, Fred went on to study Agriculture at Eastern Kentucky University, specialising in livestock production.

For some time, Fred worked with his brother managing farms in North Carolina and Kentucky, but eventually grew restless, as many veterans often struggle to find their pace in life again following a military tour.

Moving on with his life yet again, Fred studied web design, and even earned a master’s degree in Educational Sciences, eventually becoming a high school biology teacher, and also working as a middle school history teacher. During this time, Fred also became a wrestling coach and volleyball coach, bouncing around in life, unable to find a sustainable balance.

Unfortunately, Fred lost his teaching position during the 2019 pandemic, and as such had to find new employment. It was then that he took the opportunity in a new, adventurous industry – mining for gold.

In 2019, Fred enlisted as one of Parker’s crew members, specifically because of his medical expertise, but he quickly proved to his new employers that he can handle any tough, stressful situation they throw at him. Before coming onto the show, Fred admitted that he used to watch every episode, and enthusiastically followed every season with close interest.

Now, Fred had the opportunity to experience all the action first hand, and he certainly has not regretted his decision to join the industry and show…. at least, not until the recent misfortunes his crew experienced.

Eventually, Fred caught the attention of “Gold Rush’s” producers, who invited him onto the show to lead his own crew in the thirteenth season of the show. While Fred might have grown particularly famous on “Gold Rush” for his facial hair, the one thing that certainly sets him apart from the rest of the show’s stars is his fit, toned physique, which one could expect from a special forces soldier.

However, while he might keep in shape, not many of his fans would actually know that Fred once competed in “American Ninja Warrior”. Although he may not have got too far in the obstacle competition show, it’s nonetheless quite a prestigious achievement to even compete.

What Happened To Lewis?

Unfortunately, no amount of military training and physical exercise can really prepare anyone for placer mining, as is evident in Lewis’ case. In the latest season of “Gold Rush”, Fred was given the opportunity to lead his own crew, and although he seemed to have a knack for this kind of job, things haven’t been going according to plan for Lewis.

During one of the latest episodes that aired in December 2022, Fred voiced his opinion on what could happen, as he talked about everything that is going wrong. According to the veteran, if he and his crew don’t meet their goals, or even pick up the pace at some point, then they might be forced to quit the season. This would mean that they would not only drop out of the show, but also stop their mining exploits. Fred’s opinion on events caused rumours to spread rampantly, suggesting that Lewis might leave the show at any time.

However, it seems that Lewis isn’t the only one concerned about their lack of success this past season, as one of Fred’s crew members also spoke out, saying that he leaves his family for long periods of time to help Fred achieve his goals.

Unfortunately, according to the same crew member, if the bad luck and poor performance streak continues, it wouldn’t be worth it to come out for another season. Some of the problems that plague Fred and his crew include injuries, as well as machine and vehicle breakdowns, ultimately hampering their efforts, progress, and success.

Sadly, it’s not only Fred and his crew who seemed concerned about how things are going for them, but fans of the show also expressed their opinion on how poorly Lewis’ crew is doing. While Fred may have begun his stint in “Gold Rush” earning the respect of both Parker and the viewers, he is now struggling to maintain that good standing.

Taking to Reddit and other discussion threads about the show, fans continue to express their disgust about Fred’s operation, with some even questioning its legitimacy.

Some consider that Fred has been the worst rookie in the history of the show, while others question how Lewis and his crew mess up the simplest tasks, often taking way too long to complete, and seem to be quick to remark on Fred’s mistakes. In fact, for some fans, it became so bad that they would skip past Fred’s segments in the show, and some even admitted that they use his segments as an excuse to visit the restroom.

In addition to Fred’s failures, some fans even expressed their disgust about how frequently Lewis would discuss his ‘time in the military’ instead of focusing on the mining operation. Some of the comments on these discussion threads are the responses of other veterans, who complain about the apparent nonsense Fred keeps talking about.

Unfortunately, it’s become so bad that Fred accused the people of bullying him on these various discussion threads, but it seems clear that Lewis might soon be leaving the show.

As proof of how badly things are going, Lewis’ team is in last place at the usual weigh-in, and one of the teams ahead of them, although marginally, has not even been mining for the most part of the season. Quite honestly, if things get any worse, Fred might definitely be leaving both the show and the placer mining industry.

Although Fred might be falling out of favour with the viewers, there seems to be a handful who still support him, saying that he’s out there trying to find a new way of making a living, and that at least he’s trying.

Nonetheless, with all the misfortune and mistakes plaguing Fred and his crew, they might not have much of a future in placer mining, as it seems that they’ve hardly even been able to make enough money to pay salaries, never mind breaking even.

For now, only time will tell if Fred succeeds, and to find out if he stays on with the show, fans can catch up on the series on Discovery Channel or any affiliate programs. However, the future doesn’t seem too bright for Fred and his crew.

What happened to Al Roker? Health Update

Published

on

Fans of NBC’s “Today” were shocked when it was announced on the popular morning show that Al Roker, one of its presenters and the show’s resident weatherman, was hospitalized with a health scare in the latter part of 2022. It was such a tumultuous experience for his family, as his medical team initially didn’t realize what was wrong with him, except that there was internal bleeding. After two months of absence, he went back to the TV show in the first week of 2023, and was welcomed with deafening applause.

Get to know Al Roker

Long before the American viewing public knew him as one of the most beloved institutions on TV, through his participation in the long-running morning show, as with many people, Al Roker struggled for years to reach his comfortable position today in the TV industry and life in general.

His childhood, education, and family

The New York City native, Albert Lincoln “Al” Roker Jr., was born on 20 August 1954. His American parents, Albert Lincoln, Sr. and Isabel were of Bahamian and Jamaican descent, respectively. He came from a blue-collar background, with his father as a former bus driver and a dispatcher, and later on became a labor relations negotiator for Transit Authority in New York. His mother was focused on raising him and his five younger siblings in a Catholic household, which led him to matriculate from a local Jesuit military Xavier High School, using a scholarship that was granted to him. Most of the fans thought that he aimed to be on TV early on in life, but Al shared in one of his interviews, ‘I wanted to go to New York School of Graphic Art and Design. That’s where almost every golden age comic artist and cartoonist went.’ However, his parents were against it, saying that he wouldn’t go to school just to learn how to draw cartoons.

The family of eight didn’t have the extra money to send the eldest son to a private university at that time, so Al earned his bachelor’s degree in Communications in 1976 from the State University of New York, Oswego. Everyone knew that there was an advantage if a person studied at an Ivy League School, however, Al said that his stint at the state university helped him reach his potential. A senior department head in the university, who immediately saw something in him, made sure that he was given opportunities within the school system to better himself. That relentless faith in him made him believe in his capability to go toe to toe with other students from popular expensive universities. While studying in college, he was hired as a weatherman for a local news station, at the behest once again of the college department head.

How he started his broadcasting career

It didn’t take long after his college graduation that WTVH, a local CBS affiliate in Syracuse, hired his services as a weather anchor. He then moved to Washington, D.C. to work with WTTG, an independent station, and learned more about the industry. With his talent in weather broadcasting, it wasn’t a surprise that the NBC network noticed him. Al’s first job under the NBC network was in an NBC Cleveland station, WKYC. After five years, he was asked to go back to New York City to work with WNBC – TV executives wanted him to do the weather reporting during weekends.

It didn’t stop there, as producers saw his immense talent, so he took over the weeknights as well. Then he became the second-string weather reporter from the early 1980s up to the 2000s, for the top people in the network such as Joe Witte, Willard Scott, Bryant Gumbel and Matt Lauer, he even won the Best Weatherman award from the New York Magazine. People were amazed that he didn’t take a meteorology course in college, unlike the other weather reporters on TV, but most of his weather reports included scientific backgrounds, which were way more than what his colleagues did at that time. With the help of NBC’s radar instead of using the National Weather Service, he wrote his own forecasts, and was kept updated on incoming weather disturbances.

His entry in “The Today Show”

In 1995, Al was given his biggest break – a TV show of his own called “The Al Roker Show” aired during weekends. Soon after that, he was offered a spot on NBC’s flagship morning show, “The Today Show,” also known as “Today.” He said that he learned from the best weather forecasters out there including Willard Scott, who advised him to just be himself and not resort to any gimmickry that Al normally used to do during his segments. Willard also said that it was the secret to longevity in the industry; Al followed his advice, and it worked for him.

When Willard retired in 1996, Al took over his position and worked with the “Today” show reporting as a full-time regular member of the team. He was given the regular weekday weather segment, and with his accurate yet easygoing style of reporting, he became a staple with the American viewing public.  By 2012, aside from being the weatherman, he co-anchored the third hour of the “Today” show, entitled “Today’s Take.” The segment was canceled in 2017, but was revived a year later, and he was back again hosting the same segment, up to this day.

His moments with high-profile personalities

Over the years, his popularity increased, and he became a household name. Al was given many rare opportunities in the broadcasting field, one of them being when he covered Barack Obama’s 2013 Presidential Inauguration, and shook the hand of then-Vice-President Joe Biden, who seemed to have built a good rapport with him. So it wasn’t a surprise when the former VP fist-bumped with him just before entering the White House when inaugurated as President in 2021.

Personal Life

Everyone thought that Alice Bell, the WNBC producer, was Al’s first wife, because few people knew that he’d married and divorced an unnamed woman when he wasn’t a public figure yet. It seemed that both Al and his first ex-wife never talked about it, so most entertainment sites failed to include this little nugget of information in his resume. Anyway, Al married Alice in 1984 and after three years they adopted a daughter named Courtney, but 10 years later the couple divorced. In 1995, Al married Deborah Roberts, a TV journalist for ABC, and they had two children, Nicholas born in 2002, and Leila in 1998.

Al Roker’s health issues

Underwent a bariatric surgery

After getting winded by going up a short climb, Al felt that he needed a change. At 48 years old, he was a 5ft -8in tall, 340lb man, and he knew that if he didn’t do something about his weight, something disastrous could happen to him. He’d struggled with weight issues since he was a kid. His father, who had lung cancer back in 2001, encouraged him to get fit and healthy. His dad told him a week before he died, ‘Look, we both know I’m not going to be here to help you with my grandkids, so you gotta promise you’re going to lose weight.’

In 2002, he opted to for a weight-loss treatment called bariatric surgery, and in just eight months, viewers were happy for him because he’d lost about 100lbs. However, in 2007 a crisis in the family triggered him back to the unhealthy eating habits that made him regain almost all the pounds that h’de lost. As a result, he initially went on a yo-yo diet, but with the support of his wife and children, he regained self-control. After changing his lifestyle accompanied by hard work, his weight went down to 200lbs. Al used the controversial Keto diet, and while he gained some criticism over it, he said that people should do whatever worked for them, with the advice of their physician.

His knee replacement surgery in 2016

Al had already undergone knee surgeries in the past, due to a car accident and his weight issues, but in 2016, his surgeon performed knee replacement surgery. Apparently, the doctor said that it was the generation in which most people wore out their joints by working out too much in the gym, and staying active for most of their younger years. The doctors spent an hour working on his right knee and the surgery went well, but Al needed more therapy to be cleared to work again. He took the therapy seriously, and it didn’t take long for him to be back on the “Today” show.

His carpal tunnel surgery in 2018

The esteemed weatherman had emergency carpal tunnel surgery in October 2018. It was during the time when he was about to make his big Broadway debut entitled “Waitress” that he had a problem with his thumb, which bothered him immensely during rehearsals. It came to the point that he couldn’t feel anything with it, that his doctors advised him to have surgery. He requested general anesthesia as he never wanted to feel or see anything while he went under the knife. After a day’s rest, he was seen on the “Today” show again doing his hosting job, saying that it had been just another regular day for him.

His hip replacement surgery in 2019

Al Roker’s friends and fans were again anxious when he asked for a medical leave in September 2019. Three months before having surgery, he dealt with persistent pain in his hip; his earlier trip to the Arctic region as part of a NASA mission to study glacier meltdown had exacerbated the condition. He said that it started with a little twinge and pinch in his hip, and then his back was aching as well. His doctors said that there was new hip replacement surgery called hip resurfacing arthroplasty. Instead of removing the femoral head in the hip, it would just be trimmed and capped with a metal object; the surgery was successful.

His shoulder surgery in 2020

Al’s problem with arthritis ended when he realized that the severe joint pain he had in his right shoulder wouldn’t go away if he didn’t go under the knife again. It came to the point that he could only sleep two to three hours a night, and so his orthopedic surgeon went on to perform shoulder replacement surgery. He already had the rotator cuff repair in his right shoulder in 2014, but it seemed that it was acting up again. The surgery was successful, and the then 65-year-old was absent from his show for only about a week.

His battle with prostate cancer

A few months after his shoulder replacement surgery, Al broke some bad and good news to his fans. It wasn’t because something went wrong with his recent surgery, but it was about his being diagnosed with prostate cancer during a routine check-up. The good news was that the cancer was detected immediately, but the bad news was that it was an aggressive form of prostate cancer, although a good thing about the unfortunate situation was that the cancer was somehow confined to the prostate only. He went back onto the operating table for the removal of his prostate, and took an indefinite leave of absence because he wanted to get treatment for it by using the different options available, so that it wouldn’t return.

The main reason he shared this health issue with the public was not to get sympathy, but to raise awareness about the illness. Not everyone knew that the statistics for this type of cancer was that one out of nine men would contract it, but for African-American men, it was one out of seven. He encouraged every man to have their prostate tested, as it only involved a simple test that could save a lot of heartbreak if detected early, because it was treatable.

Tested positive for Covid-19 in 2022

Just when things were getting better for the weatherman, he revealed that he tested positive for the Covid-19 virus in September 2022. The only good thing about it was that Al only had mild symptoms, as compared to the others who suffered badly because of it. He encouraged everyone to take the vaccine shots, as it worked for him. ‘I got boosted last week. And the science works. I don’t feel anything really, and all is good.’

Blood clots on his leg and lungs in November 2022

Al was conspicuously absent from Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in November 2022. Weeks before the TV special was aired, many viewers started to wonder what could have happened to him, as he hadn’t shown his face in the morning show. He revealed on his social media account that he was hospitalized due to a blot clot found in his leg, and that it traveled to his lungs, and he thanked everyone for their show of love and support.

Al made it seem that his recent health issue was simple, but his wife Deborah shared that he was quite sick and it was frightening. She said, ‘It’s not lost on us that this is a major, major thing for Al to be here. He is a living, breathing miracle.’ On top of the blood clots, he suffered from internal bleeding; initially, his team of doctors couldn’t find out the reason for it, and were forced to open him up to repair the damage to his body. Al lost half of his blood, but went into the operating room thinking that he would only have a single surgery but ended up with four. The doctors redid his insides as he had a couple of bleeding ulcers, along with a problem with his colon, and they also had to take out his gallbladder.

It happened weeks before Christmas, and Deborah recalled that she was thinking if he was going to make it to celebrate Christmas with them. However, her faith was restored when they had a conversation around is hospital bed – he told her that he wanted to cook Spatchcock Turkey for Christmas. She said that Al was confident that he would survive this complicated blood clotting issue, and true enough, the surgery was successful, and he was released during Thanksgiving.

Went back to the hospital again

Just as everyone thought that Al was mending well in his home, he was rushed back to the hospital just a day after his release. His co-anchors from “Today” confirmed that he was hospitalized once again, and that it was due to complications but he was getting the right care. Everyone was alarmed since he posted about his current state with great energy on Instagram while watching the “Today” show coverage of the Thanksgiving parade.

2023 update on Al Roker’s health status

On 6 January 2023, Al Roker made it back to the small screen once again, and greeted everyone happily, saying that he was blessed to be alive. Amidst the thunderous clapping that the audience gave him, and some tears on the faces of his fans, the joker in Al couldn’t help but exclaim that he truly missed everyone, and it was great to be back wearing pants again. In another episode, his wife Deborah made a guest appearance, and shared some of the harrowing details that they went through. Al paid tribute to his wife and said that if not for her, he wouldn’t be here.

Given the accumulated effects of all the aforementioned operations, we don’t doubt that it’s true!

How Is Ami Brown Doing After Husband Billy Brown’s Death?

Published

on

Ami Brown is an American reality television personality, who rose to fame as the matriarch of the Brown family in the Discovery Channel original series “Alaskan Bush People”.

The show followed Billy Brown, his wife Ami and their seven children, as they live – some would say survive – in the Alaskan wilderness away from society, mostly away from the comforts of a modern life, which includes basic utilities as well as advanced technology.

Filmed as a documentary reality drama series, “Alaskan Bush People” is set in the remote regions outside of Hoonah, Alaska, where the Brown family lived by fending for themselves with old, traditional methods such as hunting, trapping and logging.

The series proved to be popular among Discovery Channel’s viewers, eventually raking in an extensive following. With the show’s popularity unquestioned, the series continued to air for fourteen seasons, the latest of which premiered in October 2022.

While the show is known for dramatizing somewhat the daily difficulties and struggles of the Brown family’s off-grid lifestyle, the Browns nonetheless faced considerable turmoil through the years, but the most recent tragedy to devastate the family might be the worst they have experienced in years.

Of course, the loss of the family patriarch, Billy, would shatter the Brown family, but it also has fans questioning the future of “Alaskan Bush People”. Might this be the end of a long-running success, or will the show go on?

To make matters even worse, Ami, the surviving widow and matriarch of the family, fell ill in 2017 after, the diagnosis of which turned out to be cancer. At the time, regular viewers and followers of “Alaskan Bush People” were concerned for Ami’s future.

With people eager to know how she’s holding up since the passing of her husband on 7 February 2021, we’ll take a look at how Ami is doing.

Ami’s Early Life And Union With Billy

Born on 28 August 1964, in Fort Worth, Texas USA, the youngest daughter of Eugene and Earlene Branson, Amora ‘Ami’ Larene’s early life remains somewhat shrouded in mystery. However, while few details of her early life are known to the public, Ami did share a few tragic experiences of her childhood.

According to the reality star, she endured many difficulties which included abuse at the hand of her father, Eugene. Ami’s closest relatives, namely her brother Les Branson, have since denied Ami’s claims, stating that she was the spoiled, younger sibling in the family, and that their parents never mistreated him or Ami.

Although Ami’s accusations are being questioned, it remains clear that to her, she had a  difficult childhood, and according to her, she ran away from home at the age of fifteen, around which time she met Billy. Little information is available about Ami’s educational background.

She met Billy during the late seventies, back when he still owned and operated a private plumbing firm: the first time was when he delivered service at her family home, and according to Ami, it was love at first sight. Not long after their initial introduction, Ami ran away with Billy and tied the knot with him in 1979 – Billy, being nine years her senior, was 24, and while this might sound scandalous, it wasn’t an uncommon practice in Texas during that era.

During the first couple of years of their union, Billy and Ami lived in Fort Worth, as Billy continued to operate his plumbing business, but as time passed, the couple grew restless and hungered for adventure outside of conventional life.

Driven by their lust for excitement, Billy and Ami packed their bags in to van and travelled across the states for the next decade. During this time, Ami gave birth to their oldest son, Matthew ‘Mat’ Jeremiah, in September 1982; they welcomed their second child, Joshua ‘Bam Bam’, into the world in September 1984.

Two years after Joshua’s birth, the couple sold their van and moved to Alaska, where they settled outside of the town of Wrangell. Unfortunately, while they might have been enjoying the freedom of their lifestyle, the family suffered financially.

This forced Billy to work odd labour jobs for the first couple of years that they lived in Alaska, which often meant that Billy had to spend months away from home.

Then, during their first Alaskan winter, Billy, Ami and their two sons ended up stranded on Masman Island, where they struggled for survival for 18 months before eventually being rescued and returned to the town of Port Protection.

While it might have been a traumatic experience for most people, the difficulties Billy and his family endured convinced them that they could easily survive the Alaskan wilderness. Hungry for adventure and eager to step away from the common lifestyle of society, Billy decided to move his family to the outskirts of Hoonah where they would begin to live a self-sustained life.

As time passed, Billy and Ami welcomed the remainder of their children into the world. Solomon ‘Bear’ Isaiah Freedom entered the world in 1987, followed by Gabriel ‘Gabe’ Starbuck in 1989, and Noah Darkcloud in 1992.

In 1994 Ami gave birth to the couple’s first daughter, Amora Jean ‘Birdy’ Snowbird, and in 2002, Ami once welcomed the youngest child and daughter, Merry Christmas Kathryn Raindrop ‘Rainy’.

In 2014, the Brown family’s lifestyle attracted the interest of reality television, and pretty soon they had their own dedicated series on Discovery Channel. While the show has been called out for often being overdramatic and allegedly scripted, some of the difficulties on the show certainly can’t be faked.

Aside from the regular turmoils, this also includes Ami’s lung cancer diagnosis in 2016. Shortly after news broke of Ami’s illness, her condition worsened, and she was eventually hospitalised, and subsequently underwent numerous chemotherapy treatments, though the family appeared helpless about Ami’s future.

Fans of “Alaskan Bush People” were devastated by the news, but thankfully Ami survived the ordeal, and miraculously in 2018, was declared cancer free.

With fans and the tabloids claiming that the show is heavily scripted, people took to social media to express their doubts about Ami’s cancer diagnosis. Some even said that they knew she wouldn’t die because everything about the show is fake.

Unfortunately for most of the sceptics, and sad as it might be that people had to go to such lengths, Ami’s doctors responded to the media backlash with substantial medical records and proof of Ami’s illness, ultimately debunking the negative conspiracy theory.

Following this, Ami gained a lot of attention in the media due to her past family affairs, attracting the attention of the tabloids after her mother, Earlene, passed away. According to her brother, Les, the family became estranged from Ami because of Billy’s interference, and they hadn’t had contact with her in more than a decade after she moved to Alaska.

However, Ami remained adamant about the abuse she suffered at home, claiming that her family could only blame themselves for losing contact with her.

Billy’s Passing and Its Aftermath

In February 2021 news broke of the unfortunate and untimely passing of the Brown family patriarch, Billy, who passed at the age of 68.

https://www.facebook.com/alaskanbushppl/posts/pfbid0RDkon7RM5jad5TwUo63UHRxqh2BnDbniReFF9yX3P5ouwYWoRDjAAwi3wqkmVWbql

Initially, the first news of Billy’s death reached the public through Discovery Channel’s coverage of the incident, expressing their condolences towards the Brown family, and, of course, praising Billy for the years he had been a part of the Discovery family.

Bear Brown also expressed his grief on social media, praising his father for being an independent man who lived life on his own terms, and said that Billy will always be remembered in the legacy he left behind.

While the circumstances of Billy’s death remain obscure and private, it’s publicly known that Billy suffered a seizure shortly before succumbing, but the cause of the seizure has never been revealed.

Billy’s passing came only three years following a health scare that took place while filming in 2018. Billy experienced a ordeal that landed him in the hospital, and doctors confirmed that he had an upper respiratory infection which left him in a bad condition.

Fortunately, the Brown patriarch recovered and was able to move on with life, but it leaves people wondering if Billy’s poor health might have been the cause for his eventual passing.

Since then, fans of “Alaskan Bush People” formed a Facebook support page on which they continue to encourage the Brown family, more specifically, Ami, who they feared might have a health setback due to the difficulty of the situation.

However, despite the absence of the patriarch, the Brown family continued their journey as a self-sustained family, and as the stars of the reality show.

In fact, as Ami claims, Billy remains with them in spirit, driving them to continue with their way of life, and to live the dream Billy once inspired the family to follow. In the latest seasons of the show, the Brown family moved to Washington State, where they are now living and working on their ranch, for at least part of the year.

During the latest episodes, Ami and her children began working on expanding the ranch, as well as building a new barn for the animals.

Thus it’s safe to say that, while the family mourns the death of their father and husband, they certainly won’t lie down and allow life to pass them by. While the family might be going through a difficult time, they refuse to give up and quit, keeping up the life Billy inspired them to pursue.

To see how the family continues with their daily lives, overcoming difficulties, hardships, and the struggle of self-sustained living, feel free to catch the fourteenth season of “Alaskan Bush People”. For those wondering, while Discovery is yet to make an announcement, it might be safe to assume that the Brown family will be back for a fifteenth season in 2023, and everybody can look forward to it for now.
