Who is Matt Dallas?
American actor Matthew Joseph ‘Matt’ Dallas was born in Phoenix, Arizona USA, on 21 October 1982, meaning that his zodiac sign Libra. He’s had roles in nearly 40 movies and TV series, and is perhaps still best known for his playing of the lead character Kyle in the critically acclaimed romantic mystery series “Kyle XY”, created by Eric Bress and J. Mackye Gruber, and which also starred Marguerite MacIntyre and Bruce Thomas. It follows the life of a teenager who seems to be unable to express love, joy or anger, the series aired from 2006 to 2009, and won two of its 13 award nominations.
Education and early life
Matt was raised in Phoenix alongside his two brothers and a sister, by their parents about whom Matt hasn’t spoken in public, because he respects their privacy; it’s widely believed that his mother was a pharmacist, and his father a high school teacher.
Matt fell in love with acting when he was 12, after his grandmother had taken him to watch a production of “The Ugly Duckling” at the local Desert Stages Theater. Upon enrolling at Arizona School of the Arts in 1997, Matt joined its drama club and went on to appear in nearly all the plays performed at the school, as well as several performed at the above mentioned theatre.
He matriculated in 2001, and even though Matt hasn’t spoken of his further education, most of his fans believe that he attended college, from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in acting in 2005.
Roles in movies
Matt’s debut film appearance was his playing of Todd in the 2005 action horror thriller “Way of the Vampire”, which received mostly negative reviews, and he could then have been seen appearing in the horror comedy “Camp Slaughter”, and the comedy “Wannabe” both in 2005, and the comedy drama “Living the Dream” in 2006.
In 2007, Matt was cast to play the main character Danny in the romantic family drama “The Indian”, written and directed by James R. Gorrie, and which also starred Sal Landi and Jane Higginson. It follows the life of a young couple, and the movie won four awards. Matt appeared in only two movies in the remainder of the decade, both in 2008 – the horror thriller “Babysitter Wanted” and the music video “Katy Perry: Thinking of You”.
He portrayed Lance Leigh in the 2011 fantasy comedy drama “Naughty or Nice”, directed by David Mackay, and in which Matt starred alongside Hilarie Burton and Gabriel Tigerman; it follows an advertising executive who’s found Santa’s ‘Naughty or Nice’ list.
Matt’s also known for his playing of the main character Frank Dean in the 2017 romantic western “Painted Woman”, written and directed by James Cotton, and which also starred Stef Dawson and Kiowa Gordon. It follows Julie who has to choose to escape from her benefactor either with a horse trainer or a hired assassin; the movie won 10 of its 15 award nominations.
Matt’s most recent movie roles have been in 2019 in the short comedy “Bedfellows” and the thriller “A Daughter’s Plan to Kill”, and in the 2020 short comedy “Half Husband”; he’s currently shooting for the upcoming movies “Shoulder Dance”, “Marbles” and “Wake”.
Roles in TV series
Matt’s debut TV series role was his playing of Role Model in the 2005 episode “Chinatown” of the comedy drama “Entourage”, and the year 2009 saw him play Chad in the popular mystery drama “Eastwick”, created by Maggie Friedman, and which starred Jaime Ray Newman, Lindsay Price and Rebecca Romijn. It follows a mysterious man who’s somehow given three women superpowers.
Matt’s had only two other TV series roles – he portrayed Fitch in five episodes (2013 and 2014) of the family comedy drama “Baby Daddy”, which won two of its 23 award nominations, and then played the lead character Jake in the 2015 romantic adventure comedy “Anne & Jake”, starring alongside Victoria Bullock and Lindsay Seim. The series follows Jake who’s building a time machine at his home in Los Angeles in 2014, and has somehow managed to bring a girl from 1814 London, England to his house.
Other credits
Matt worked as a camera operator on the 2013 science fiction movie “Life Tracker”.
He co-produced the 2018 horror thriller movie “Along Came the Devil”.
Matt received special thanks for the 2018 episode “Coming Out” of the comedy mini-series “Doctor Puppet”.
He’s made a guest appearance in talk-shows “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”, “El Hormiguero” and “Rachael Ray”, amongst others.
Awards and nominations
Matt’s won two of his six award nominations – a 2007 Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films Rising Star Award, and an Angel Film Award for Best Newcomer at the 2007 Monaco International Film Festival, for his performance in “Kyle XY”.
Love life and husband
There’s been some controversy surrounding Matt’s sexual orientation, as he’s gay but had spent many years denying allegations of being attracted to men, prior to marrying one.
It was American blogger and columnist Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr. aka Perez Hilton who revealed on his gossip website that Matt was gay, while he was then a guest on the “Howard Stern Show”, and talked about Matt’s sexual orientation. As a response to this, Matt stated that he had slept with over 20 women during his teenage years, and mentioned several famous actresses to whom he was sexually attracted, thus denying the allegations.
After so many years of trying to cover up his sexual orientation, Matt married American musician Blue Hamilton in 2015, and the two men revealed on their YouTube channel on 22 December 2015 that they had adopted a two-year-old boy, Cow, then revealed on 16 July 2022 that they’d adopted a girl, Rosa.
Matt hasn’t mentioned other men whom he’s dated; he’s married to Blue Hamilton as of November 2022, and they have two adopted children.

Matt and his husband’s YouTube channel “Matt and Blue” today numbers nearly 400,000 subscribers, and close to 55 million views of all their videos combined; most of these feature Matt and Blue during their everyday lives.
Matt’s followed by over 220,000 people on Instagram, and there are more than 850 pictures and videos uploaded onto his account, many of which feature his husband and their pet dog.
He likes to spend his spare time fishing and climbing mountains, as well as taking part in various other outdoor activities; Matt also enjoys working out at the gym.
His favorite actors are Matthew McConaughey and Russell Crowe, and some of his favorite films include “White Boy Rick”, “The Gentlemen”, and “Free State of Jones”.
