Early life and education

Harry Jon Benjamin, better known as H.Jon, was born under the zodiac sign of Gemini on 23 May 1996, in Worcester, Massachusetts USA, thus he holds American nationality, and comes from a family of Jewish descent.

Harry was raised in his hometown by his father Howard Benjamin, who was a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of an electric company, and his mother Shirley who was a ballet dancer, and then worked as a dance teacher – he’s their only child.

Talking about Harry’s educational background, he attended Worcester Academy, and upon matriculating in 1984, enrolled at Connecticut College, from which he graduated with a BA degree in 1988.

H. Jon made his acting debut in 1995, starring as Quark in an episode of the series “Understanding”, and was then heard as Ben Katz in “Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist” until 2002. Concurrently, from 1995 until 1997 he had a recurring role in “Late Night with Conan O’Brien”, followed by his appearance in 22 episodes of “The Jenny McCarthy Show”.

From 1997 until 1999, H. Jon was heard as Professor Parsons in “Science Court”. Concurrently with this role, he was seen as Jeff in “Sex and the City” in 1998, and the same year he was seen in “Upright Citizens Brigade”, and then in the following year, he was heard as Lewis Merriweather in “The Dick & Paula Celebrity Special”.

In the early 2000s, H. Jon was heard in numerous series, and since the list of his roles is too long to enumerate, we will mention some of his most significant voice roles such as his voicing of Mothmonsterman in the animated comedy “Aqua Teen Hunger Force” (2001-2009), and then was heard as Kevin Harnisch in “O’Grady” (2004-2006). Since 2006 to the present, he’s had a recurring role as Carl in “Family Guy”, and H. Jon is also well-known for his role as Uncle Ted in the sitcom “Important Things with Demetri Martin” (2009-2010).

Concurrently, from 2009 until 2021, Harry was cast to voice his most notable role to date, as Sterling Archer in “Archer”, which beside the aforementioned nomination for the Primetime Emmy award, brought him 11 more, in 2013 winning Behind the Voice Actors Award for Best Male Lead Vocal Performance in a Television Series – Comedy/Musical.

As mentioned, he was heard in “Bob’s Burgers”, and in 2020 this voice role brought H. Jon an Annie Award for Outstanding Achievement for Voice Acting in an Animated Television/Broadcast Production.

Some of Harry’s other notable voice roles have been in “WordGirl”, “Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp” and its sequels, and “The Who Was? Show”, among many others.

Roles in movies

H. Jon made his first movie appearance as Ken Fold in the 1997 movie “Who’s the Caboose”, followed by his role as Eric in “Next Stop Wonderland” in 1998, and then in the following year, he was seen as City Hall Clerk in “Puppet”.

In the early 2000s, H. Jon was seen starring in “Happy Accidents”, and was then heard voicing the Can of Vegetables in “Wet Hot American Summer”, followed in 2001 by his role as Trainer in “Not Another Teen Movie”, also starring Chris Evans, Chyler Leigh and Jaime Pressly.

H. Jon was next seen as Keith in “Martin & Orloff” in 2002, then cast to play Kevin in the 2003 movie “Temptation”, followed by his role in “New York Minute” in the following year.

In 2007, he was heard as Lying Rhino in “The Ten”, before he portrayed Uncle Irving in “Puberty: The Movie”, was then seen as Police Officer in “The Toe Tactic”, and as Elliot Roberts in “Turbocharge: The Unauthorized Story of The Cars” in 2008.

In the following years, H. Jon had an uncredited role as Coach in “22 Jump Street” in 2014, followed by his role as Dennis in the comedy “Jason Nash is Married” in the same year, while in 2015, he portrayed Landlord in “All Over It”, and was then seen as Gary Gass in “Creative Control”, while in the animated movie “Hell and Back”, he voiced The Tree.

In 2016, H. Jon starred in “Dean”, a comedy romantic drama, written and directed by Demetri Martin, and the, two years later, he portrayed Wormwood in the TV movie “The Demons of Dorian Gunn”. His most recent voice roles have been in the animated movies “The Bob’s Burger Movie” and “My Butt Hazza Fever”, both in 2022.

Love life and relationships

There have been various rumors concerning both H. Jon’s love life and his sexual orientation –  many people assumed that he is gay, until he revealed that he’s in a long-term relationship with a set decorator, Amy Beth Silver, with whom he has a son, Judah, born in 2003.

As of July 2022, H. Jon is still in a relationship with Amy, and living in Brooklyn, New York City.
