Who is Georgina Haig?

Australian actress Georgina Haig was born in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia on 3 August 1985, meaning that her zodiac sign’s Leo. She’s had roles in more than 30 TV series and movies, and is perhaps best known for her playing of Queen Elsa in the romantic family adventure series “Once Upon a Time”. The series starred Ginnifer Goodwin, Lana Parrila and Jennifer Morrison, was created by Edward Kitsis, and tells the story of a troubled young woman who’s moved to a small city in Maine; it aired from 2011 to 2018, and won 13 of its 115 award nominations.

Education and early life

Georgina was raised in Melbourne alongside her young brother Julian Haig, who’s today an actor and model, by their Australian father Russell Hagg who’s a scriptwriter and moviemaker, and their mother Gillian Haig who’s an artist.

Georgina was mostly into dancing while growing up, and studied ballet at the Royal Academy of Dance, reaching Grade 8. She enrolled at Red Hill Consolidated School in 1991, and continued her education at Toorak College, from which she matriculated in 2003.

Georgina completed the youth award programme The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, and then enrolled at the University of Melbourne; she took a year off in 2006, when she volunteered at the Hanoi University of Science and Technology in Vietnam, teaching English. Upon her return to Australia, she transferred to the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in acting in 2008.

Georgina’s debut film role was her playing of Chloe in the 2008 short drama “Iris”, and she gained recognition in 2010, when cast to play Simone in the thriller “Wasted on the Young”, written and directed by Ben C. Lucas, and which starred Oliver Ackland, Adedlaide Clemens and Alex Russell. It tells the story of a couple of young adults who are attending a high school party, and the film was nominated for two awards.

Georgina could then have been seen playing supporting characters in the 2010 short drama “Lest We Forget”, and in 2011 the crime thriller “Crawl” and the short horror comedy “Recon 6”. In 2012, she portrayed Glynis in the critically acclaimed biographical comedy “The Sapphires”, directed by Wayne Blair, and which starred Chris O’Dowd, Deborah Mailman and Jessica Mauboy. Georgina’s also known for her playing of the lead character Gina Nolan in the 2016 science fiction thriller “Mars Project”, directed by Bharat Nalluri, and which also starred America Olivo and Mark Leslie Ford; it follows a group of explorers who’ve come to Mars to aid the first human colony, but have learned that they’ve all vanished.

Georgina’s since appeared in only two movies: the drama “Where We Disappear” and the mystery thriller “Radio Silence”, both released in 2019.

Georgina’s debut TV series role was her playing of Georgina Freeman in five episodes (2009-2010) of the crime action “Underbelly”, which starred Caroline Craig, Paul Tassone and Dieter Brummer, and follows the lives of several Australian underworld figures. The series aired from 2008 to 2013, and won 27 of its 67 award nominations.

The year 2010 saw Georgina play Emma Griffiths in three episodes of the drama “Rescue Special Ops”, and she then portrayed Zamira in 26 episodes of the 2011 family adventure “The Elephant Princess”. In 2012, she played Henrietta Bishop in the critically acclaimed mystery science fiction “Fringe”, which Alex Kurtzman and J. J. Abrams created, and which starred John Noble, Joshua Jackson and Anna Torv. It tells the story of an FBI agent who’s teamed up with a mentally ill scientist and his son, in an attempt to explain a storm of phenomena; the series aired from 2008 to 2013, and won 18 of its 108 award nominations.

Georgina could then have been seen appearing in a couple of episodes of the 2013 comedy “The Elegant Gentleman’s Guide”, the 2014 drama “Never Tear Us Apart: The Untold Story of INXS” and also in 2014 the crime drama “Reckless”.

In 2018, she played Dr. Sophie Forbin in the science fiction adventure “The Crossing”, created by Jay Beattie and Dan Dworkin, and which starred Steve Zahn, Natalie Martinez and Tommy Bastow. The series follows a group of people from the future who’ve come to seek asylum in an American city in the present – it won one of its three award nominations.

Georgina’s three most recent TV series roles have been in four episodes of the 2021 action science fiction “Snowpiercer”, six episodes of the  family comedy “Back to the Rafters” in the same year, and two episodes of the 2022 mystery horror “Archive 81”.

Georgina appeared in the 2011 short video “The Making of ‘Road Train’”, and was featured in the 2011 TV special “Inside Film Awards”.

Georgina won a 2011 Screamfest Festival Trophy for Best Actress, for her performance in “Crawl”.

Love life and husband

Georgina hasn’t spoken about how and when she met Australian scriptwriter and actor Josh Mapleston, but it’s believed that a mutual friend introduced them at a party in 2011; Josh has 13 writing credits, an is perhaps best known for his writing of the 2013 musical series “Dance Academy”, the 2015 drama series “Ready for This”, and the 2016 short animated adventure series “Beat Bugs”.

Georgina and Josh married in a private ceremony on 14 June 2014, attended by around 100 of their closest family members and friends; in February 2017, Georgina gave birth to their daughter, but they’ve kept her away from media.

Georgina hasn’t mentioned other men whom she’s dated, she’s married to Josh Mapleston as of December 2022, and they have a daughter together.

Georgina grew up a fan of Spiderman, and auditioned for the role of Gwen Stacy in the 2012 movie “The Amazing Spider-Man”; the character was eventually played by Emma Stone.

She’s spoken about the popularity of American movies, claiming that even Australian people tend to watch more American than Australian films.

There are more than 80,000 people following Georgina on Instagram today; she enjoys being active on the social media network, and has posted more than 1,000 pictures and videos.

She loves antiques, and goes searching for antique stores wherever she travels.
