A singer-songwriter, Maria Guadalupe Araujo Yong is better known by her stage name Ana Gabriel; she was born under the zodiac sign of Sagittarius on 10 December 1955, in Guamuchil, Sinaloa Mexico; she holds Mexican nationality, and her ethnicity is Latino.
She is perhaps known best for her hit songs such as “Ay Amore”, “Quien Como Tu”, and “Es Demasiado Tarde”, among many others, and her work earned her numerous awards and accolades – The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce honored her with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, in the category of Recording.
Early life, family, and education
Ana was raised in the small town of Guamuchil by her parents, and developed an interest in music from an early age. Her family encouraged her singing and musical ability, and she made her stage debut when she was just six years old, performing the song “Regalo A Dios” by Jose Alfredo Jimenez, and the audience was thrilled by her voice.
While growing up, Anna dreamed of becoming a famous singer, however, upon matriculating from high school in 1973, she moved to Tijuana, Baja California, and enrolled at CETYS University, from which she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting in 1977.

In 1987, Ana won third place at the OTI Festival, in Lisbon Portugal, performing the song “Ay Amor”, with an orchestral version of the pop-power ballad song “Búscame,” composed in conjunction with Tony Flores. Then in the following year, she released her debut album “Tierra de Nadie”, and during her career, has now released 28 studio albums, 19 compilation albums, and three live albums, selling over 40 million albums worldwide.
Being a versatile singer, Ana has showcased her talent as an interpreter of various musical styles, including mariachi, pop, romantic ballads, and ranchero. The highest-selling album of her career is the 1991 album “Mi Mexico”, which was ranchera-influenced and it opened the doors to Anna’s career in Europe.
She received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Latin Pop Performance in 1991, and has been three times nominated for The Latin Grammy Award, in 2005 and ’06 for Best Ranchero Album, and for Best Female Pop Vocal Album in 2008.
Ana has also had 29 nominations for Lo Nuestro Awards, which are awarded annually by the television network Univision in the USA, and won 13, including the Excellence Award in 2006.
In the opinion of her fans and critics, Ana has secured her place as one of the best Mexican singers thanks to her inner-and-out beauty, passion, and charisma, so it isn’t surprising that she was honored with a star on the Walk of Fame, in a ceremony held on 3 November 2021, the 2,707th star on Hollywood Boulevard in front of Ballet Hollywood 6623. Afterwards Ana said in her interview: ‘Many years ago, my parents and I were walking along this boulevard and we were fascinated looking (at) the names on the stars, I (felt) something in my chest, in my heart, and I said, ‘Mom, one day, I don’t know when, but one day my name will be here.’
Ana also has four acting credits to her name – she made her acting debut as Dahlia in the 1995 movie “The Nature of the Beast”, and then guest-starred in the series “Caroline in the City” in 1998. In the following year, she was seen as a Reporter in “The Deep End of the Ocean”, and her most recent role has been her portrayal of Ms. Ramirez in “Ned and Stacey” in 2017.
Love life and husband
There have been various rumors concerning both Ana’s love life and her sexual orientation, many of them were saying that Ana seems to be bisexual.
According to many sources, Ana was in a secret relationship with famous Mexican actress Veronica Castro, and although neither Ana nor Veronica confirmed this rumor, many people believed that it is true, especially after Ana’s stylist revealed that the singer was very in love with Veronica, however, as she said, the two were afraid of the public’s reaction, since they thought about their love as ‘forbidden’.
Many people say that the two were together for over 30 years, and what is certainly true is the fact that Veronica was seen at every Ana’s concert.
Sometime in 2009, it was revealed that Ana was in a relationship with Hugo Sanchez, a Mexican football player, and the two dated until 2011. Afterwards, Ana kept her private life a secret, and she hasn’t been seen with any man or woman with whom she might be in a relationship.
