Who is Paige Hurd?
Paige Audrey Marie Hurd was born in Dallas, Texas USA, on 20 July 1992 – her zodiac sign is Cancer, and she holds American nationality. She’s an actress with more than 30 credits to her name, perhaps known best for her portrayal of Lauren in the critically acclaimed crime series “Power Book II: Ghost”, created by Courtney A. Kemp, and which starred Michael Rainey Jr., Shane Johnson and Gianni Paolo. It follows the lives of a couple of controversial characters, and the series won five of the 11 awards for which it was nominated.
Paige is also known for having been the goddaughter of the late American rapper DMX, who died from a heart attack caused by cocaine on 9 April 2021, aged 50.
Early life and education
Paige was raised in Dallas alongside her two sisters and two brothers, by their Puerto Rican mother Cheryl Martin, who’s the CEO of CMA Entertainment, and their African-American father, who prefers to stay away from the media’s attention.
Paige grew up being interested in acting, mostly because she and her siblings watched movies and TV series on a daily basis. She made her debut TV series appearance aged eight, when cast to play Natasha in the 2000 episode “True Colors” of the romantic drama “Felicity”; in 2002, Paige appeared in an episode of both the comedy series “George Lopez” and the mystery crime series “Boomtown”.
She then went on to act throughout her entire education; Paige matriculated from a local high school in Los Angeles, California in 2010, and then chose not to pursue a college degree, but to work on her way up in the film industry.
Roles in movies
Paige made her debut film appearance in the 2003 action crime drama “Cradle 2 the Grave”, directed by Andrzej Bartkowiak, and which starred Jet Li, DMX and Mark Dacascos. It follows a jewel thief who has stolen black diamonds, as a consequence of which his daughter has now been kidnapped; the movie was nominated for six awards.
A couple of Paige’s following roles were in the 2003 family adventure comedy “The Cat in the Hat”, and in 2005 the comedy “Beauty Shop” and the drama “Virginia”.
In 2015, Paige was cast to star as Maryland in the drama “Grandma’s House”, directed by Paul D. Hannah, and which also starred Loretta Devine and Coco Jones; it tells the story of a teenage girl and her step-brothers who have moved in with their grandmother – the movie won a Las Vegas Black Film Festival Award for Best Religious Film.
Three of Paige’s most recent movie roles have been in the comedy “Halfway There” and the horror crime drama “Thriller” both in 2018, and the 2021 drama “Who Is Christmas Eve?”
Roles in TV series
In 2003, Paige played Chloe Newland in the episodes “Castaways” and “Extreme Action Figures” of the mystery crime drama “The Division”, created by Deborah Joy LeVine, and which starred Bonnie Bedelia, Nancy McKeon and Lisa Vidal; it follows the lives of five female police officers in San Francisco, California, and the series won six of the 12 awards for which it was nominated.
The following years saw Paige appear in an episode or two of various series, such as the family comedy “The Suite Life of Zack & Cody”, the crime fantasy drama “Medium” and the romantic drama “ER”.
Between 2006 and 2009, she played Tasha in 17 episodes of the musical comedy drama “Everybody Hates Chris”, created by Ali LeRoi and Chris Rock, and which starred Terry Crews, Tichina Arnold and Tequan Richmond. It follows the lives of a young African-American boy and his dysfunctional family, and the series won seven of the 61 awards for which it was nominated, including three Primetime Emmy nominations.
The 2010s saw Paige appear in an episode of a couple of series, including the family comedy “Aloha”, the action crime drama “The Player”, and the crime drama “Rebel”.
Most recently, between 2019 and 2021, she portrayed Gayle Franklin in the drama “The Oval”, created by Tyler Perry, and which starred Brad Benedict, Ed Quinn and Kron Moore. The series focuses on Hunter Franklin, who has just become the US President.
