Who is Simone Missick?

American actress Simone Missick (nee Cook) was born in Detroit, Michigan, on 19 January 1982 under the zodiac sign of Capricorn. She’s appeared in nearly 30 movies and TV series, and is probably best known for her playing of Lola Carmichael in the drama series “All Rise”, created by Greg Spottiswood, and in which she’s starring alongside Wilson Bethel and Jessica Camacho. It follows the police officers, lawyers and judges working at a Los Angeles County courthouse, the series has been airing since 2019, and has won one of its 10 award nominations.

Education and early life

Simone was raised in Detroit with her sister Rene Cook, and brother whose name remains undisclosed; their father was a teacher, and his name hasn’t been revealed, while their mother Cassie Cook was a health inspector and is today a social worker.

Simone began acting in school plays while attending Renaissance High School in Detroit, but was also interested in her education, and thus chose not to pursue acting straight away; she had a couple of other interests during her teenage years, which included dancing, singing and sports.

Simone matriculated a year early in 1999, and then enrolled at Howard University, from which she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in 2003; she then moved to London, England and enrolled at British American Drama Academy, from which she graduated with a Master’s degree in acting in 2005.

In London, Simone studied under famous British actress Jane Elizabeth Marie Lapotaire, the late British actor and director Alan Sidney Patrick Rickman, and famous British actor Sir Ben Kingsley.

Roles in movies

Simone’s debut film appearance was her portrayal of Jamie in the 2003 comedy drama “The Epicureans”, and her following role came in 2008, when cast to play Reese Knight in the comedy drama “The Road to Sundance”.

She portrayed Newly Single Lady in the 2009 comedy drama “K-Town”, and the same year saw her star as Tamar in the short drama “Brotherlee”. In 2011, Simone starred as Anna in the short drama “Look Again”, then in 2012, she played Elise in the family comedy drama “A Taste of Romance”, directed by Lee Rose, and which starred Teri Polo, James Patrick Stuart and Alexander Bedria. It follows two restaurant owners who are competing against each other, but have now fallen in love.

Simone could then have been seen appearing in the 2012 short comedy “Voicemail”, the 2013 comedy “Douglass U”, and the 2015 short comedy drama “Black Card”.

In 2018, she portrayed the lead character Jade in the popular drama “Jinn”, written and directed by Ninla Mumin, and which also starred Zoe Renee and Hisham Tawfiq. It follows 17-year-old Summer, whose mother’s converted to Islam, and the movie won five of its 16 award nominations.

Simone’s most recent movie role has been her portrayal of Lanie Cooper in the 2019 drama “A Cold Hard Truth”.

Roles in TV series

Simone’s debut TV series role was her playing of Reporter in the 2011 episode “Epic Babysitters” of the comedy “Bucket and Skinner’s Epic Adventures”. Her following roles came in 2014, when cast to play Porschla in the episode “Yo Soy Capitan” of the crime drama “Ray Donovan”, and Melanie in the episode “The Baby Moment” of the comedy drama “Everything I Did Wrong in My 20s”.

Simone could then have been seen appearing in an episode of both the thriller drama “Scandal”, and the science fiction mystery drama “Wayward Pines”, and in 2017, she played Grace in the comedy “American Koko”, which starred Viola Davis, Cedric Sanders and Diarra Kilpatrick. It follows Akosua ‘Koko’ Millard who’s a member of the Everybody’s A Little Bit Racist (EAR) Agency, and is solving uncomfortable racial situations; the series was nominated for three awards, including a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Actress in a Short Form Comedy or Drama Series (Diarra Kilpatrick).

Simone went on to star as Misty Knight in the 2017 action crime adventure mini-series “The Defenders”, and played the same character in the critically acclaimed Marvel’s action crime drama “Luke Cage”, created by Cheo Hodari Coker, and which co-starred Theo Rossi and Mike Colter. It tells the story of Luke Cage, who’s become super strong and has developed unbreakable skin; the series aired from 2016 to 2018, and won seven of its 29 award nominations.

Simone’s three most recent TV series roles have been in the 2019 episode “Chapter 10: Forgiveness” of the thriller drama “Tell Me a Story”, the 2019 episode “The Battle of Livingstone Caverns” of the adventure “Relics and Rarities”, and eight episodes of the 2020 action science fiction drama “Altered Carbon”.

Other credits

Simone produced the 2018 movie “Jinn”, as well as the 2022 episode “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’” of the series “All Rise”.

She received special thanks for the 2022 short comedy movie “Time to Party”.

Simone’s made a guest appearance in the talk-shows “Sidewalks Entertainment”, “Entertainment Tonight” and “CBS Mornings”, amongst others.

Simone’s been nominated for five Black Reel Awards: in 2018 for her performance in “The Defenders”, in 2019 for “Jinn”, two in 2020 for “Altered Carbon” and “All Rise”, and finally in 2021 for “All Rise”.

She was also nominated for two Image Awards for Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series in 2020 and 2021, both for her performance in “All Rise”.

Love life and husband

Simone’s been married to popular American actor Dorian Crossmond Missick for over 10 years now – they don’t have children together. The two exchanged vows in a private ceremony on 19 February 2012, but it remains unknown how long they had previously been together. It’s believed that they met on a movie set three years earlier, but this remains unconfirmed. Dorian’s appeared in nearly 100 movies and TV series, and is perhaps best known for his playing of Detective Ruben Robinson in the popular crime thriller series “Southland”, which aired from 2009 to 2013.

Simone and Dorian appeared alongside in the series “Luke Cage”, with Dorian portraying Dontrell ‘Cockroach’ Hamilton.

Neither has mentioned the people whom they had dated prior to meeting one another – Simone’s married to Dorian Missick as of October 2022, and doesn’t have children.

Interesting facts and hobbies

Simone loves to read books in her spare time, and her favorite is “Their Eyes Were Watching God” by Zora Neale Hurston.

She grew up being in love with the late American singer-songwriter and musician Prince Rogers Nelson, and believed that she would had married him by the time she turned 11.

Simone’s a cat-lover, and has featured her cats Suge and Danger in some of her Instagram pictures.

She likes to make special cards for her family members and friends.
