A singer and actress, who rose to prominence after her marriage to Penn Badgley, the famous “Gossip Girl” actor Domino Suzy Kirke-Badgley, was born under the zodiac sign of Sagittarius on 17 December 1983, in Westminster, London, England. Her mother, Lorraine, is a fashion designer, and the owner of the Geminola boutique in SoHo, New York, while Domino’s father is well-known musician Simon Kirke, a drummer for the bands Free and Bad Company.
The Kirke family are descended from the Gibson-Craig baronets, a junior branch of a family of Nottinghamshire landed gentry. Domino’s sisters, Lola and Jemima, are both actresses; Lola Kirke is perhaps known best for her role as Hailey Rutledge in the series “Mozart in the Jungle”, while Jemima Kirke is known for her role as Jessa Johansson in the series “Girls”, among others.
Career
After producer Andres Levin spotted Domino singing at Joe’s Pub, a music venue and restaurant in New York that hosts live performances, although aged 17, she signed to his label, and shortly afterwards she formed the band called DOMINO, with Jordan Galland, a musician and filmmaker.
The band recorded an extended play (EP) with Mark Ronson, who worked with famous musicians including Adele, Lady Gaga, and Amy Winehouse, and DOMINO toured for three years with Lily Allen, an English singer-songwriter, and with Gang of Four, an English post-punk band. Domino put her music career aside after she gave birth to her first child in 2009, and soon afterwards, she found a new career for herself as a doula – a trained companion who is not a healthcare professional, but who supports another person through childbirth, induced abortion, miscarriage, or non-reproductive experiences such as dying. In 2017, Domino released her debut album “Beyond Waves”. Currently, Domino works as a doula, and is a co-founder of the doula business collective ‘Carriage House Birth’.
In her interview for Glamour Magazine, Domino said: ‘Working as a doula – and as a business owner owning a doula collective, I noticed that all the families using the services had such a need for storytelling, and more spaces to come together and tell stories,’ adding that this was the main reason for putting her book together, with co-author Joanna Griffiths – “Life After Birth: Portraits of Love and the Beauty of Parenthood” was published on 21 September 2021.
Love life and relationships
Domino hasn’t been the subject of any rumors or controversies before she met her future husband, Penn Badgley, since she was quite unknown to the public.
However, she later acknowledged that she was in a relationship with the street musician Morgan O’Kane, who is the father of her first child, Cassius, who was born in 2009. Domino and Penn met in 2014, and after three years of dating, they married on 27 February 2017 in a New York courthouse, in presence of their closest family members, including Domino’s sisters, Lola and Jemima. A few months later, the two held another much larger wedding ceremony in upstate New York, and some of the guests were celebrities such as Heidi Klum and Zac Posen.
