Marisa Ramirez, who plays Maria Baez, a detective in the New York City Police Department, has been a main cast member of the series “Blue Bloods” since 2013. Early life, family, and education

Born Marisa Maquire Ramirez on 15 September 1977, in Los Angeles, California USA, she holds American nationality although she comes from a family of mixed ethnicity. Her father, Raymond, has Mexican roots, while her mother, Francine, has Scottish, English, Irish, French and Native American heritage. The mentioned family issue was her father’s battle with cancer, which he unfortunately lost.

Marisa’s educational background includes attendance at All Saints Catholic School and Ramona Convent Secondary School. She began her modeling career when she was 13 years old, when discovered by a modeling agency in Los Angeles, and by the age of 15, she was working as a print model, and appearing in numerous commercials. She eventually moved on from modeling to hosting and acting.

Upon matriculating in 1995, Marisa didn’t go to college, but followed her career path.

Marisa made her acting debut as Gia Campbell in the 1997 series “Port Charles”, a spin-off from “General Hospital”. She followed with her guest role as Liza in “USA High” in 1998, and in the following year, she made an appearance as Vanessa in “Roswell”.

From 2000 until 2002, Marisa reprised her role as Gia Campbell actually in “General Hospital”, playing in 110 episodes of this worldwide popular romantic crime-drama, which began airing back in 1963 – the series has had over 650 award nominations, and won 306. For her performance, Marisa was nominated for the American Latino Media Arts (ALMA) Award for Outstanding Actress in a Daytime Drama and Soap Opera Digest Award for Outstanding Female Newcomer in 2001, and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Image Award for Outstanding Actress in a Daytime Drama Series in 2002.

In 2003, Marisa was seen as Evelyn Santos, playing her first lead role in “Miracles”, also starring Skeet Ulrich and Angus Macfadyen. She followed with several guest roles, before she was cast to play Carmen Mesta in another long-running series, “The Young and the Restless”, appearing in 76 episodes during 2006 and 2007.

Her next notable role came in 2009, when she portrayed Doctor Chloe Artis in “Mental”, also starring Jacqueline McKenzie and Chris Vance. The series followed the story of a psychiatrist who tried to save his sister and other patients in every possible way.

In the following years, Marisa mostly guest-starred in numerous series, and was then cast to play Melitta in the TV mini-series “Spartacus: Gods of the Arena”, which was nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award. In the same year, Marisa was seen as Lina Flores in “Against the Wall”, and was next cast to play Officer Riley Dunn in “Body Of Proof” in 2013, followed by her role as Maria Baez in “Blue Bloods”. This mystery crime drama centered on a family of New York cops, the famous Reagans, starring Donnie Wahlberg, Bridget Moynahan and Will Estes, which had 16 award nominations, including one for a Primetime Emmy, and won four.

The 13th season of the show premiered on 8 October 2022.

Roles in movies

Marisa made her big-screen debut in the 2005 thriller horror “All Souls Day: Dia de Los Muertos” and in a lead female role opposite Travis Wester. Two years later, she was seen as Ellen in “Itty Bitty Titty Committee” a comedy-drama about a high school girl who finds her purpose after joining a group of feminists. The movie won Tampa International Gay and Lesbian Film Festival Audience Award for Best Lesbian Feature.

Next, Marisa starred in the 2009 short movie “Columbia Ave.” followed by her role as Sierra D’Asanti in “The Funeral Planner” in 2010, and in the same year, she was seen in the TV movie “The Quickening”.

Three years later, she followed with her role as Rita Ashton in another TV movie, “Prosecuting Casey Anthony”, a drama based on the novel of the same title by Jeff Ashton, also starring Rob Lowe and Oscar Nunez.

In 2014, Marisa was seen as Maria in “The Extendables”, a comedy about a disgraced Hollywood actor who gets another chance to star, but this time in an Uzbekistan action movie. Marisa’s co-stars were Ian Patrick Williams and Brian Thompson, who also wrote and directed this film.

Love life and husband

Marisa is very private about her personal life, and prefers to keep her love life hidden from the public eye. However, what we do know is that from 2002 until 2011, she was married to Nathan Lavezoli, about whom nothing is known except that he was Marisa’s husband.

After her divorce, Marisa continued to keep her personal matters secret, but the big surprise for her fans was her pregnancy. In May 2016, she gave birth to her daughter named Violet Rae, and although she often shares their joint photos, Marisa hasn’t revealed the father.

As of October 2022, it seems that Marisa is single, she was married, and has one child.
