Who is Linden Ashby?

Linden Ashby is an American actor and martial artist, perhaps still best known to the world as Johnny Cage in the film “Mortal Kombat” (1995), but more recently in the TV series “Teen Wolf” (2011-2017) as Sheriff Noah Stilinski.

Born Clarence Linden Garnett Ashby III on 23 May 1960, in Atlantic Beach, Florida, USA, he’s the son of Clarence Linden Garnett Ashby Jr, a pharmaceuticals manufacturer, and Eleanor, a civic organizer.

He went to the private Bolles School in Jacksonville, Florida, after which he enrolled at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado, but left college in his junior year to focus on acting, however, he eventually enrolled at Neighborhood Playhouse in New York City to study acting.

Career Beginnings

Linden launched his career in the mid- ’80s as Curtis Alden in the soap opera “Loving,” the second in the line of actors to portray the character. He left the series after five episodes, and his subsequent role was as Lance Reventlow in the television movie “Poor Little Rich Girl: The Barbara Hutton Story” (1987).

Before the decade ended, Linden appeared in several TV series, and in 1989 won the role of Officer Honeycutt in the TV series “The New Adam-12”, appearing in 16 episodes until 1991, then continued his career with the role of Ted in the television movie “The Perfect Bride”.

Rise to Prominence

Linden’s hard work was rewarded in 1994 when he was selected for the part of Morgan Earp in the Academy Award-nominated biopic “Wyatt Earp”, starring Kevin Costner, Dennis Quaid and Gene Hackman.

The following year he was Johnny Cage, one of his most memorable roles in the fantasy action-adventure film “Mortal Kombat”, based on the video game franchise. His co-stars were Christopher Lamber, Robin Shou, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, and Talisa Soto, among other famous film stars.

Throughout the second half of the decade, Linden featured in several B-production films, including “Blast” (1997), and later that year he was chosen for the part of Dr. Brett Cooper in the award-winning romantic drama series “Melrose Place”.

He started the new millennium with the lead role in the short-lived action-comedy series “The War Next Door”, then co-starred with Megan Ward and Kristin Minter in the thriller crime-drama film “Tick Tock”.

From 2003 to 2004, he starred as Cameron Kirsten in the soap opera “The Young and the Restless”, and in 2007 as Chase, he joined the cast of horror action-adventure film “Resident Evil: Extinction”, starring Milla Jovovich, Ali Larter and Oded Fehr.

In 2008 Linden played Paul Hollingsworth in the award-winning soap opera “Days of Our Lives”, and the following year starred in the horror film “Hunger”, alongside Lori Heuring and Joe Egender.

His next prominent role came in 2011, as Deputy Noah Stilinski in the fantasy action-drama series “Teen Wolf”; the producers later upgraded his character to Sheriff, and he became one of the main stars next to Tyler Posey, Holland Roden and Dylan O’Brien, through to 2017.

Concurrently, in 2012 he joined the main cast of the TV series “Army Wives” as Dr. Dan Seaver, and since focused more on his work on the TV series “Teen Wolf”. However, in 2016 he co-starred in the sci-fi action thriller film “Beta Test”, written and directed by Nicholas Gyeney, and co-starring Manu Bennett and Larenz Tate.

He pursued new roles following the end of “Teen Wolf”, first as Det. Grundy in the sci-fi action thriller series “Lifeline” (2017), while in 2018, he starred in the television movie “A Daughter’s Revenge”, next to Jessica Sipos and Sierra Wooldridge.

In 2019 he lent his voice to Johny Cage in the video game “Mortal Kombat 11”, then had a minor role in the TV procedural crime-drama series “NCIS: New Orleans” in 2020. Next, he was Whit Foster in the TV series “Trinkets”, while he is currently working on several projects, including the film “Purple Hearts”, now in post-production and scheduled for release later this year.
