Who is Yvonne McGuiness?
As a celebrity wife, Yvonne McGuiness is perhaps only known as the woman married to famous “Peaky Blinders” actor, Cillian Murphy, however, before her husband’s rise to stardom, she established a name for herself in the world of arts. She is a visual artist with a wide range of interests, including print and video installation.
According to her official website, Yvonne’s work encompasses writing, sound, performance, film, and textile and sculptural elements.
Early life, family, and education
Born and raised in Kilkenny, Ireland, Yvonne McGuiness holds Irish nationality. She was born on 12 October 1972, which makes her age 50; there is no information about her parents and siblings, but what we do know is that her uncle is John McGuiness, an Irish politician who served as a Minister of State (2007-2009).
When it comes to Yvonne’s educational background, she attended a local high school, and after she matriculated in 1990, she enrolled at Crawford College from where she obtained her BA degree. Yvonne then moved to London, England, where she enrolled at the Royal College of Art, from which she holds a Master of Arts degree.
As mentioned, Yvonne has her official website on which she promotes her work. Most recently she worked with the VISUAL Centre of Contemporary Arts, investigating themes of sensation, empathy, and connection to place. The work, entitled ‘Can’t Feel Feel’ explored how the languages of theatre, spectacle, and visual arts can combine and affect both the audience and artists.
One of Yvonne’s most impressive works was a three-screen video installation, entitled “The Well” which was inspired by the true story of Bridget Cleary who was burned alive by her husband back in 1897.
Eamonn Maxwell, a Curator and Cultural Consultant, wrote in his blog about Yvonne’s work saying:
‘I think this film and its presentation are evidence that she succeeded in her efforts and she should be applauded for such a brilliant work.’
Yvonne has no social media accounts, so it is hard to keep track of her private life and work.
Relationship and marriage with Cillian Murphy
Since both Yvonne and her husband are quite secretive when it comes to their private lives, they haven’t shared how and when they met. However, it is known that they have been in a relationship since 1996. At that time, Cillian auditioned for the lead role in the play “Disco Pigs” (which later was adapted for the movie), and which was a big hit, so the crew toured around the world for more than a year and a half. Yvonne, as his girlfriend, followed Cillian for most of the tour.
The two married on 1 August 2004, in her father’s vineyard in Provence, France. The wedding ceremony was private and held in presence of their closest family members and friends.
On 4 December 2005, Yvonne gave birth to their first child, a son they named Malachy, while their second son named Aran was born in July 2007.
The family of four lives in Ireland, since they both want their children to grow up near their grandparents. In 2015, they moved from London to Dublin.
