Kobe was raised in Philadelphia alongside his older sisters Shaya and Sharia, by their father Joe Bryant who’s a former professional basketball player, and mother Pamela Cox Bryant who’s a housewife. He was only three when he began playing basketball, and grew up being a huge fan of the Lakers; the family moved to Rieti, Italy when Kobe was six, after his father retired from basketball. Kobe continued playing the sport there, became fluent in Italian, and also began playing soccer, cheering for A.C. Milan. The family moved back to Philadelphia when he was 13, and he then studied at Bala Cynwyd Middle School.
He began attracting attention upon enrolling at Lower Merion High School, and although he excelled both academically and at basketball, he still chose not to enroll at college upon matriculating in 1996, but to make himself eligible for the NBA draft; he signed a three-year rookie contract with the Lakers worth $3.5 million.
He had little playing time during his first season, however, he became the youngest NBA All-Star starter during his second year, and then following his third season signed a six-year contract with the Lakers worth $70 million; they went on to win the NBA Championship in 2000, 2001 and 2002.

Kobe’s parents didn’t attend the wedding, because they were dissatisfied that Vanessa wasn’t African-American; Kobe then spent two years estranged from them, which ended when Vanessa gave birth to their first daughter – Natalia; their second daughter Gianna Maria-Onore was born in May 2006.
Vanessa filed for divorce on 16 December 2011, but the two reconciled, and she gave birth to their third daughter Bianka in December 2016, while their fourth daughter Capri followed in June 2019.
