Australian actress and moviemaker Mia Wasikowska, was born in Canberra, Australia, on 25 October 1989, making her zodiac sign Scorpio. She’s had roles in over 40 movies and TV series, and is perhaps still best known for her playing of the main character Alice Kingsleigh in the critically acclaimed 2010 family adventure fantasy movie “Alice in Wonderland”, which Tim Burton directed, and which also starred Helena Bonham Carter and Johnny Depp. It follows 19 years old Alice who’s returned to the magical world of her childhood, and the movie won 37 of its 100 award nominations, including two Oscar wins for Best Achievement in Costume Design and Best Achievement in Art Direction.

Mia was raised in Canberra alongside her younger brother Kai and older sister Jess, by their Australian father John Reid who’s a collagist and photographer, and their Polish mother Marzena Wasikowska who was a photographer.

Mia studied at Cook Primary School and Ainslie Primary School prior to moving to Szczecin, Poland when she was eight, after her mother had been offered a job there; they returned to Australia a year later. She was nine when she began taking ballet lessons at the Canberra Dance Development Centre, and she dreamed of becoming famous worldwide; Mia eventually became dissatisfied with ballet because of the pressure to achieve physical perfection, and was 14 when she chose to leave dancing behind her.
