Who is Denise Dowse?

Fans of “The Resident”, the drama series which follows the story of work and lives of the group of doctors at Chastain Memorial Hospital, are certainly familiar with the character of Carol Austin, who was portrayed by Denise Dowse. Let us tell you more about this talented actress; she was born under the zodiac sign of Pisces on 21 February 1958, in Honolulu, Hawaii USA, thus she holds American nationality and her ethnicity is African-American. Denise has over 120 acting credits to her name, and besides mentioned role, she is perhaps still known best for her role as Mrs Yvonne Teasley in the popular ‘90s teenage series “Beverly Hills, 90210” which had 23 award nominations, including one for Primetime Emmy, and won 14.

Early life, family, and education

Denise was raised in Honolulu by her parents, although being secretive when it comes to her personal matters, she hasn’t spoken about her childhood thus hasn’t shared information regarding her parents’ names and occupations. Denise hasn’t spoken about having any siblings, so her fans believe that she was raised as an only child.

She attended a local high school, and upon matriculating in 1976, she enrolled at Norfolk State University, in Virginia, from which she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Art (English and Theatre), in 1980.

In the comedy drama “Dr. Dolittle 2”, Denise was cast to play Secretary, followed by her role as Mom in the romantic comedy “Book of Love: The Definitive Reason Why Men Are Dogs” in 2002, and the early 2000s, also saw her starring in “Killer Rats” and “Eulogy”, before she was cast to play Marlene in “Ray”, the biographic music drama about the legendary blues musician and singer Ray Charles, starring Jamie Foxx, Regina King and Kerry Washington.

The movie had 54 award nominations, and 53 wins, including two Oscars for Best Achievement in Sound Mixing, and Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role (Jamie Foxx), in 2005.

In the following years, Denise was seen in “Coach Carter”, “Guess Who”, and “Reign Over Me”, in 2007, and then in 2010, Denise portrayed Sarah in “Anger Has a Secret”, a drama written and directed by Terrisha Kearse.

In 2013, she was seen alongside Halle Berry in “The Call”, followed by her roles in “Laugh Gym”, “Please Stand By”, “A Stone Cold Christmas” and “Loners” (2019), while her most recent role was her portrayal of Derrick’s Mom in “Fatale” in 2020, while currently, her fans can see her as Detective Trina McWilliams in the 2022 movie “A Cloud So High”.

There have been various rumors both concerning Denise’s love life and her sexual orientation, mostly caused by her wish to keep her private life away from the media’s attention.
