Maribel Guardia Bio

A singer and actress with over 60 credits to her name, Maribel Guardia rose to prominence after she became Miss Costa Rica in 1978, placed as a top 15 semi-finalist in the Miss World beauty pageant the same year, and also represented her country at the Miss Universe contest, where she was selected as Miss Photogenic.

She launched her acting career in the ’80s, making appearances in numerous telenovelas, such as “Tu y Yo”, “Serafin”, and “Nina de mi Corazon” among others, and released a series of albums in the Norteño music genre, debut album came out in 1988.

Early life and education

Maribel was born as Maribel Del Rocio Fernandez Garcia, under the zodiac sign of Gemini on 29 May 1959, in San Jose, Costa Rica – she holds both Costa Rican and Mexican nationality, while her ethnicity is Latino. She changed her stage last name to Guardia, since Televisa already had an actress named Maribel Fernandez under contract.

Maribel was raised by her Spanish parents Alvaro Fernandez and Rita Garcia, about whom little is known, except that her mother died when Maribel was nine years old, and her father passed away recently. She has one sister, Vilma, who prefers to keep her life away from media attention.

Speaking of Maribel’s educational background, she attended a local high school, and upon matriculating in 1967, enrolled at the University of Costa Rica but didn’t graduate. She later got a scholarship from Televisa to study drama at Sergio Bustamante’s Academy, in Mexico.

Maribel made her acting debut aged 14, portraying La Zarca in the 1973 movie “El Diablo en Persona“, but her next role only came in 1981, in the movie “Como Mexico No Hay Dos”. In the following year, she was seen in “El Bronco” and “Juan Charrasqueado y Gabino Barrera, su Verdadera Historia”.

In 1984, Maribel portrayed Rosa in “Pedro Navaha”, followed by roles in “Un Hombre Violento”, “Macho Que Ladra No Muedre”, and in the following year, she was seen as Isabela in “Terror and Black Lace”, which was her breakthrough role.

In the late ’80s and the early ’90s, Maribel starred in numerous movies, with some of her most notable roles being in “La Alacrana“ (1986) and “Mujer de Cabaret“ (1991). In the following years, Maribel was seen in “Filtraciones“ (1992), “La Pura“ (1994), and “Los Complices del Inferno“ (1995), and then she focused on television roles, soher next movie role came in the 1999 movie “Reclusorio III“.

After two decades, Maribel will be seen starring as Lupe in the movie “La Novia de America“, which is currently in development, and should be released by the end of 2022.

Maribel made her first television appearance portraying Marina in an episode of the series “Seduccion“ in 1986, followed by her role as Florencia Rondan in the 1994 series “Prisionera de Amor“. She was then seen as Estela Diaz-Infante de Santillana in “Tu y Yo“ from 1996 until 1997, and in the following years, Maribel starred in “Que nos Pasa“ (1998), “Serafin“ (1999), and “Adventures in Time“ (2001).

Her next role came in the 2004 series “Mision S. O. S. Aventura y Amor“, followed by her role in “Que Madre, tan Padre“ in 2006, after which Maribel mostly guest-starred in numerous series, before she was cast to play Pilar Alarcon in “Nina De Mi Corazon“ in 2010. Love life and husband

There have been various rumors concerning both Maribel’s love life and her sexual orientation, which isn’t surprising since she is considered one of the most beautiful actresses in Mexico. Although she’s been romantically linked to various men from the entertainment industry, it is widely known that she was married to Joan Sebastian.

Jose Manuel Figueroa, better known by his stage name Joan Sebastian, is a Mexican singer-songwriter who’s composed over 1,000 songs for numerous artists, and is the most awarded Mexican performer in Grammy history.

Some rumors were saying that the reason for their divorce was Joan Sebastian’s infidelity; according to sources, he had an affair with the actress Arleth Teran, and Maribel left him, however, the two stayed in touch until he died in 2015. Maribel once said: ‘We have had a very nice friendship all our lives, and I thank God that I was very close to him when he was sick. I have always believed that love cannot be thrown away.’

In 2010, Maribel began dating Marco Chacon, an advocate from Mexico; their love story began after they met by coincidence in Costa Rica, and at first, Maribel was not very convinced about this romance, since Marco is 12 years younger than her, however, she gave him a chance, and the two married in the following year. Early life and education

Kenn was raised in Longview alongside Forest and their brother Damon and sister Deborah, by their father Forest E. Whitaker Jr. who was an insurance salesman, and their mother Laura Francis (nee Smith) who earned two Master’s degrees while Kenn was growing up.

He studied at Palisades Charter High School and was interested in a couple of activities during his four years there, as he enjoyed playing sports with his friends, practiced acting with the school’s drama club, and took dancing lessons.

Kenn matriculated in 1981, and although he hasn’t spoken of his further education, most people believe that Kenn enrolled at college, from which he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in 1985.

He spent the following 12 years working various jobs and staying away from the media’s attention, prior to launching his career in the film industry.

Career as an actor

Kenn made his debut film appearance in the 1997 action thriller “Most Wanted”, directed by David Hogan, and which starred Keenen Ivory Wayans, Jon Voight and Robert Kotecki. Kenn prefers to keep the details of his love life away from the media’s attention, but it’s still widely known that he’s today a married man. He’s an actor, film writer and director, with more than 130 acting credits to his name, while he’s perhaps still known best for his portrayal of the lead character Idi Amin in the critically acclaimed 2006 biographical historical movie “The Last King of Scotland”, directed by Kevin Macdonald, and which also starred James McAvoy and Gillian Anderson.
