Who is Brenda Crichlow?

An actress with over 170 credits to her name, Brenda Crichlow was born under the zodiac sign of Leo on 24 July 1967, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada; she holds Canadian nationality and her ethnicity is African-Canadian. Brenda is perhaps known best for her roles in “Fantastic Four”, “Elf”, and “Firewall”, among others, and to the younger audience she’s known as the voice of Zecora, one of the favorite characters from the animated series “My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic”.

Early life and education

Since Brenda prefers to keep her private life away from the public eye, she hasn’t shared information regarding her childhood, parents, and any siblings.

It’s assumed that she was raised in Vancouver and attended a local high school, then upon matriculating in 1985, according to her Linkedin profile, she enrolled at Simon Fraser University to study sociology, and then after two years transferred to the Studio 58 Theatre Arts, Langara College, from which she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Acting, in 1988.

Roles in series

Brenda made her acting debut in 1987, portraying Cooper in an episode of the series “MacGyver”, followed by support roles in numerous series, such as “The X-Files”, “Strange Luck” and “Sliders” all in the early ‘90s.

In the following years, Brenda was seen in “The Net”, “First Wave”, and “You, Me and the Kids”, before she was cast to play Ann Banner in “The Fearing Mind” in 2000, followed by her role as TV Newswoman in “The Dead Zone”, a fantasy mystery drama starring Chris Bruno, Nicole de Boer and Anthony Michael Hall.

Brenda made an appearance in an episode of “The Twilight Zone”, and then in “Cold Squad” in 2005, before her appearance in “Smallville”, a spin-off series from the “Superman” franchise, starring Tom Welling, Allison Mack and Michael Rosenbaum, which had 154 award nominations, and won 34, including three Primetime Emmys.

Brenda made her first appearance on the big screen in the 1989 movie “Who’s Harry Crumb?”, followed by her role as Secretary in “Look Who’s Talking”, starring John Travolta, Kirstie Alley and Olympia Dukakis, and then Brenda was seen starring in several TV movies, such as “Omen IV: The Awakening”, “Without a Kiss Goodbye”, and “Born Too Soon”.

In 1993, she portrayed Darryl in “Tomcat: Dangerous Desires”, and then for over a decade she had supporting roles in various TV movies before, she was cast to play Office Co-Worker in “Elf”, starring Will Ferrell, Bob Newhart and James Caan, and then in 2005 portraying Compound Reporter #2 in “Fantastic Four”, alongside Chris Evans, Jessica Alba, Michael Chiklis and Ioan Gruffudd.

In the following years, Brenda had numerous roles in TV movies, some of her most notable in “Home by Christmas”, “Vice”, “16 Wishes”, and “Notes from the Heart Healer”, among others.

Her most recent role was in the TV movie “A Lot Like Christmas” in 2021, while she has also voiced the character of Mrs Fregley in the comedy drama “Diary of a Wimpy Kid”.

Love life and marriage with Rene Lessard

Brenda hasn’t been the subject of any rumors concerning her love life and sexual orientation, although she’s still quite a secretive person when it comes to her private life.

It’s widely known that she’s married to Rene Lessard; the two were in a long-term relationship before they tied the knot, however, they haven’t shared information about how they met, and also the exact wedding date and the place are unknown to the public.

Brenda and Rene became parents for the first time in 2009, when their daughter Isabella was born, and their second child, a son named Justin, was born in 2012.

As of February 2022, the two are still together, apparently enjoying their love and raising their children in their residence in Canada.

Brenda is the founder of the Crichlow Actor’s Studio in Vancouver, in 2000, where she works as an acting coach and instructor. She created the annual Youth Mentorship Program, and chooses five finalists from 100 high school students who are dreaming about an acting career. Brenda provides career mentoring, guidance, and acting classes, and thanks to her 25-year-long career, she certainly has many things to offer her students.
