Who is Marc Clotet?

Spanish actor and model Marc Clotet Fresquet was born in Barcelona, Spain, on 29 April 1980, making his zodiac sign Taurus. He’s had roles in more than 30 movies and TV series, and is perhaps still best known for his playing of the lead character Diego Padilla in the 2017 historical war movie “The Chessplayer”, directed by Luis Oliveros, and which also stared Melina Matthews and Alejo Sauras. Set during the Spainish Civil War, the film follows a chess master who’s been accused of being a spy, and has been sent to an SS prison in Paris, France; the movie won 16 of its 20 award nominations.

Education and early life

Marc and his sister Aina were raised in Barcelona by their mother Anna Fresquet whose profession remains undisclosed, and their father Dr. Bonaventura Clotet who was a physician; Aina’s today a successful actress, screenwriter and director, with more than 50 acting credits to her name.

Marc became interested in acting at the age of six, mostly because he and his sister watched telenovelas together on a daily basis. He began acting upon enrolling at a local high school in 1994, as he joined its drama club and began appearing in school plays. Marc was 17 when he made his debut TV series appearance, playing Excursionista in the 1997 episode “Edats Perilloses” of the drama “Estacio D’Enllac”, and the same year was seen in the episode “Bajo un Cerezo en Flor” of the comedy “Tocao del Ala”.

He then focused on his education, and had no other roles in the following 10 years. Marc matriculated in 1998 and then enrolled at Ramon Llull University, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in 2002; he then spent the following couple of years working as a model, prior to returning to acting.

In 2008 and 2009, Marc played Pau Montaner in the adventure crime action “El Comisario”, which starred Juanjo Artero, Tito Valverde and Marcial Alvarez, and follows Chief Castilla as he’s working at a small police station in San Fernando, Madrid; the series won five of its 21 award nominations.

Marc was then cast to play Alex in the 2009 comedy “AD – Els Abans de Deu”, and between 2007 and 2009, he starred as Iago in the drama “El Cor de la Ciutat”.

Marc’s debut film appearance was playing Javi in the 2009 short horror “Comeparedes”, and the same year saw him play Stationmaster in the family fantasy drama “EING, Encadenats Imaginaris per Nens i Grans”, directed by Jordi Orobitg and Alonso Sanchez, and which starred Angels Bassas, Carles Vidal and Carles Francino; it follows the stories of 12 people as they intertwine.

In 2011, Marc portrayed Princep Formos in the comedy drama “Mil Cretins”, and the same year saw him portray Paulino in the war drama “The Sleeping Voice”, directed by Benito Zambrano, and in which Marc starred alongside Inma Cuesta and Maria Leon. The film follows Pepita who’s moved to Madrid from her village so that she’s closer to her imprisoned pregnant sister, while she’s now fallen in love with a bourgeois; the movie won 14 of its 31 award nominations.

Marc could then have been seen appearing in the 2012 short action “Cicatrices”, the 2013 romantic comedy “La Estrella”, and the 2014 romantic drama “L’últim Ball de Carmen Amaya”.

The year 2015 saw him play the main character Juan Ramon Jimenez Joven in the biographical drama “La Luz con el Tiempo Dentro”, directed by Antonio Gonzalo, and which also starred Tamara Arias and Carlos Alvarez-Novoa; the movie analyses the neoliberal ideology, and it won one of its four award nominations.

Marc’s three most recent film roles have been in the 2016 short drama “La Puta y el Cliente (Rol)”, the 2020 romantic comedy “Caribe ‘Todo Incluido’”, and the 2021 drama “15 Hours”.

Marc won a 2012 Turia Award for Best New Actor, for his performance in “La Voz Dormida”, and a 2017 WorldFest Houston Gold Remi Award for Best Actor, for “El Jugador de Ajedrez”.

He was also nominated for a 2012 Goya Award for Mejor Actor Revelacion (Best New Actor), for his performance in “La Voz Dormida”.

Love life and marriage with Ana de Armas

What also attracted a lot of the media’s attention was Marc’s marriage with famous Cuban-Spanish actress Ana de Armas. The two exchanged vows in a large ceremony in July 2011, attended by many of their friends and family members.

Ana’s had roles in more than 30 movies and TV series, and is perhaps known best for her playing of Joi, one of the lead characters in the 2017 mystery action movie “Blade Runner 2049”, which also starred Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling, and won 102 of its 267 award nominations, including two Oscar wins for Best Achievement in Cinematography, and Best Achievement in Visual Effects.

Marc and Ana divorced in 2013, for undisclosed reasons, and Marc began dating Spanish actress and singer Natalia Sanchez Molina in the same year; the two has been together since then, and Natalia gave birth to their daughter Lia on 8 January 2019, followed by their son Neo, birthdate undisclosed).

Marc hasn’t mentioned other women whom he’s dated – he’s in a long-term relationship with Natalia Sanchez Molina as of November 2022, and they have two children together.
