Who is Amara La Negra?
Diana Danelys De Los Santos, known better by her professional name Amara La Negra, was born in Miami, Florida USA, on 4 October 1990 – her zodiac sign is Libra, and she holds American nationality. She’s an actress, singer and author, probably known best for her starring role in the reality TV show “Love & Hip Hop: Miami”; it also stars Trina and Shay Johnson, has been airing since 2018, and follows the lives of several celebrity women from Miami.
Early life and education
Amara was raised in Miami, Florida by her mother Ana Maria Oleaga who worked various jobs to support herself and her daughter; Ana Maria immigrated from the Dominican Republic to the US, and raised Amara all by herself. Amara doesn’t have siblings, and hasn’t shared any details about her father with the public.
She was only four years old when she launched her career, becoming a member of the main cast of the TV show “Sabado Gigante”; Amara thus became the first black member of the cast, even though the show had already been running for more than 50 years. She left the series aged 10, and became a dancer for famous Latin artists Tito Puente and Celia Cruz.
It was in her teenage years that she became a member of the musical group Amara; after they split, she chose Amara to be her professional name, and added ‘La Negra’, which means ‘black girl’ in Spanish.
Amara studied at a local high school, and upon matriculating in 2009, didn’t enroll at college, but chose to continue pursuing a singing career.
Career as a musician
Amara only attracted attention in 2013, when her single “Ayy” became a hit, but she still wasn’t entirely accepted in the music industry, apparently because of her afro hair and dark skin.
Even though she was already somewhat famous, Amara ended up being broke in 2015, and supposedly spent three months homeless.

She got back on her feet only after having been cast to star in “Love & Hip-Hop Miami” in 2018, and the same year saw her sign a contract with BMG, and release her singles “What A Bam Bam” and “Insecure”, the former which peaked at #8 on the Billboard Latin Pop Digital Song Sales Chart.
Her debut album “Unstoppable” was released in 2019, and Amara was then invited to perform all around the US, as well as at Premio Lo Nuestro and Hispanic Heritage Awards.
Since 2020, she and her mother have together been hosting the weekly Instagram show “Grind Pretty, My Mom is the Bomb”, and most recently, in October 2020, Amara became a correspondent for the Univision’s Spanish-language show “Tu Cara me Suena”.

Amara launched her self-titled YouTube channel on 3 August 2008, which is today subscribed to by close to 200,000 people, while it numbers over 25 million views of all her videos combined. She mostly uploads her original music videos, and we’re going to mention three of the most popular amongst these, which’ve helped Amara attract many subscribers.
Her #1 video “Amara La Negra – Insecure (Audio)” has been watched over seven million times since 19 March 2018.
Amara’s second most popular video “Amara La Negra – What A Bam Bam” has been viewed over four million times since 16 March 2018.
Her #3 most viewed video is “Amara La Negra – Se Que Soy VIDEO OFICIAL”, uploaded on 10 January 2017, and today has been watched over 3.5 million views.
Acting credits
Amara has two acting credits – she starred as Paige in the 2019 comedy “Fall Girls”, written and directed by Chris Stokes, and which also starred Veronica Blakney and Ben Bunnag. It follows Paige Davis who’s been promoted to the position of president of sales at work, however, after a night of partying to celebrate, she finds her boss dead; the movie won a New Vision International Film Festival Award for Best American Actress (Erica Peeples).
Also in 2019, Amara played Sydney in the episode “Angela Bassett Is the Baddest Bitch” of the comedy “A Black Lady Sketch Show”.
She’s currently shooting for the upcoming movie “Bendecidas”.
Love life and relationships
Although Amara prefers to keep the details of her love life away from the media’s attention, she’s still allowed her fans to have a glimpse into it. She was in a relationship with her “Love & Hip-Hop Miami” co-star Shay Johnson’s brother EmJay in April 2019, who’s a popular Bachata singer. The two were together for a year, breaking up in March 2020, and Amara then went on to date American realtor and businessman Allan Mueses.
By the end of the year 2021, Amara revealed that she was pregnant with twins, but that she was single, however, on 6 April 2022, both she and Allan uploaded pictures of their twin daughters onto their Instagram accounts. It’s believed that Amara and Allan are no longer in a relationship, but have agreed to be equally involved in raising their daughters.
As of July 2022, Amara seems to be single, hasn’t married, and has twin daughters with her former boyfriend Allan Mueses.
Hobbies and other interests
Amara’s highly active on Instagram, and is today followed by more than 2.5 million people, while she’s uploaded over 1,500 pictures onto the network, the majority of which feature her during her everyday life. She’s also a TikTok star, as she today has over 500,000 followers, while she’s amassed more than 3.5 million likes of all her videos combined.
She’s physically highly active, mostly because it’s important for her career to stay in shape; Amara has several training sessions at the gym every week, and also follows a strict diet, meaning that she avoids eating fast food and sweets.
She likes to watch movies late at night – her favorite actor and actress are the late Robin Williams, and Jennifer Lopez, while a couple of her favorite films include “Patch Adams”, “The Boy Next Door” and “Maid in Manhattan”.
