Maureen Van Zandt is an American actress, who rose to stardom as Gabriella Dante in the TV series “The Sopranos” (2000-2007). However, she’s probably best known to the world as American singer/songwriter Steven Van Zandt’s wife.

Maureen Van Zandt Biography: Age, Childhood, and Education

Maureen Santoro was born on 8 November 1951 under the Scorpio zodiac sign, in the USA. Maureen is very secretive about her early life and hasn’t revealed her parents’ names and whether she has any siblings or not, however, she has said that she grew up in a mafia family.

Her early formal education is unknown, but she’s talked about attending ballet lessons from the age of five until turning 17, and she took acting lessons at Stella Adler Studio of Acting.

Career

Before becoming a professional actress, Mauren was a dancer, working for rock promoter Ron Delsener.

However, she switched to acting in 2000, and her debut role was her most successful, joining the main cast of the crime-drama series “The Sopranos”. She appeared in 28 episodes through 2007 in one of the most popular series, that won over 20 Primetime Emmy Awards and more than 120 awards in total.

In 2005, Maureen portrayed Wanda in the crime-drama film “Remedy”, which starred Arthur J. Nascarella, Christian Maelen, and Jon Doscher.

After an hiatus that lasted until the mid- 2010s, Maureen returned to acting with the role of Angelina’ The Ex’ Tagliano in the TV series “Lilyhammer” (2013-2014).

In 2017, she portrayed Merri Anne Monte in the award-winning television comedy movie “Good n Screwed”, starring Joanna Bonaro, Vincent Pastore, and Suzanne H. Smart, and the following year she appeared in the Netflix-produced adventure family-comedy film “The Christmas Chronicles”, with Kurt Russell, Darby Camp and Judah Lewis in the lead roles.

Maureen is still very active, and is currently working on the comedy thriller-crime film “Iron Terry Malone”, which is now in pre-production, and still without a premiere date.

Steven Van Zandt was born as Steven Lento on 22 November 1950, in Watertown, Massachusetts, to Mary H. Lento; there is no information about his biological father, while his stepfather is Mary’s husband, William Brewster Van Zandt.

The family moved to Middletown Township, New Jersey, when he turned seven years old, when his mother married Van Zandt.

Steven started playing guitar at an early age, and before high school matriculation, had played in several bands, including Whirlwinds, Mates, and Shadows.

He went to Middletown High School but was kicked out as he had long hair. However, he returned to matriculate as his mother was against his decision not to obtain a diploma, and so finished high school in 1968.

In his teenage years, Steven had a car accident in which he smashed his head through the windshield, leaving him with several scars on his head, which limited hair grow, and to cover the scars and bald spots, Steven, wore hats at first, but then switched to large bandanas, which have become his trademark.

As a musician, Steven is best known as the guitarist in Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band. The two had known each other since the mid- ’60s, and played in several bands before Bruce formed the E Street Band.

Steven oversaw all releases until the mid-’80s and helped Bruce and the band rise to success, such that although he left them, he remained revered by the band members and Bruce himself.

Despite not being the official band member, he has still toured with them since the band’s reunion, including the Reunion Tour (1999-2000), then Magic Tour (2007-’08), and most recently River Tour/ Oceania ’17, from 2016 to ‘17.

In addition, Steven is also a soloist, and released his debut album “Men Without Women” in 1982, and was quite active throughout the decade, following up with “Voice of America” in 1984, “Freedom – No Compromise” in 1987, and “Revolution” in 1989.

After a decade-long hiatus, Steven released his fifth album “Born Again Savage”, but then didn’t release new music until 2017, when his “Soulfire” album came out, and two years later, his most recent album, “Summer of Sorcery”.

Steven is an actor as well – his debut role was as Silvio Manfred Dante in the TV crime-drama series “The Sopranos”.

His character is the consigliere and right-hand man to Tony Soprano, the mob boss, portrayed by James Gandolfini. He starred in 79 episodes of the critically acclaimed series, and won several awards, including the joint Screen Actors Guild Award in the category for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series.

His next prominent role was as Frank Tagliano in the award-winning TV crime-drama series “Lilyhammer” (2012-2014), in which he co-starred with Trond Fausa and Steinar Sagen, subsequently collecting several awards for his work on the TV series, including Golden Nymph at the Monte-Carlo TV Festival in 2014 and 2015.

He appeared in the2019  Academy Award-nominated Martin Scorsese’s biopic crime-drama “The Irishman”, about hitman Frank Sheeran, starring Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, and Joe Pesci.

Moreover, he is now working on several projects, including films “The Trainer”, and “Iron Terry Malone”, which are in pre-production.

Steven is known for his efforts to fight issues surrounding apartheid in South Africa. He started the protest group Artists United Against Apartheid with record producer Arthur Baker. With more than 50 other musicians, he recorded the album “Sun City” to raise awareness about the apartheid laws in South Africa.
