Who is Gangsta Boo?

American rapper Gangsta Boo was born as Lola Chantrelle Mitchell in South Memphis, Tennessee USA, on 7 August 1979, under the zodiac sign of Leo. She gained recognition when she became a member of the rap group Three 6 Mafia, and became even more popular after the year 2002, when she focused on her solo career.

Early life and education

Gangsta Boo’s parents raised her in Memphis as an only child; her mother and father were working-class people, who divorced before she turned 10. Gangsta Boo and her mother moved ‘to the hood’ following the divorce, and it was around that time that Gangsta Boo became interested in rap music.

She found comfort in rapping, and began performing and writing her own songs when she was only 14. Gangsta Boo could often have been seen rapping for her friends, and performing at a club in her neighborhood; she was urged by her mother not to give up on her education, and Gangsta Boo thus matriculated from a local high school in 1997, but hasn’t attended college.

Career as a rapper

Gangsta Boo’s solo career was launched in 1998, when she released her debut album “Enquiring Minds”; it became quite popular in a short period of time, and peaked at #46 on Billboard 200 and #15 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. At the time of the album’s release, she was already in a money-related dispute with other members of Three 6 Mafia, and her song about it, entitled “Where Dem Dollas At!?” became an instant hit.

Gangsta Boo’s second album – “Both Worlds *69” – was released on 31 July 2001, and peaked at #29 on Billboard 200 and #8 on R&B/Hip-Hop. Her third album “Enquiring Minds II: The Soap Opera” followed on 23 September 2003, and reached #24 on Independent Albums and #53 on R&B/Hip-Hop.

She collaborated with rapper Trap-A-Holics on the 2011 mixtape “Forever Gangsta”, and in 2013 joined the rap group Da Mafia 6ix, contributing to their first mixtape “6ix Commandments”, but quit the group in 2014.

Her extended play (EP) “Witch” was released on 27 May 2014, and was followed by her and BeatKing’s mixtape “Underground Cassette Tape Music, Vol. 1” on 14 October 2014; the mixtape’s sequel, “Vol. 2” came out in 2018.
