When Owen was in the first grade, his teacher, Mrs. Betts suggested that he should pursue acting, as he didn’t enjoy any sport. When he got the role of Casper, he was at home, ‘… probably playing Minevraft.’ His agent phoned him to tell him the good news, but she admitted that Jude Wang, the director, wanted to tell him first, so when the director called, ‘… I had to act surprised all over again! It was like I learned I got the part twice!’

The film was inspired by “The Goonies,” and Owen thought that a great idea because “Finding ‘Ohana” can service as an earlier generations’ Goonies as the original is likely too old to be watched by children today. After Mauro Colarieti referred to him as a ‘child actor,’ Owen replied that although that’s literally true, he doesn’t fully resonate with the term. ‘… the seriousness that goes along with it. All of the child actors that I have worked with have been wonderful and I/m still in contact with them.’
