Who is Lily Newmark?

British actress and former model Lily Inge Newmark, was born in Camberwell, London England, on 24 May 1994, making her zodiac sign Gemini. She’s had roles in more than 30 movies and TV series, and is perhaps best known for her portrayal of Lexi in the critically acclaimed 2018 science fiction adventure movie “Solo: A Star Wars Story”, which Ron Howard directed, and which starred Emilia Clarke, Woody Harrelson and Alden Ehrenreich. It follows Han Solo as he’s travelling on his Millennium Falcon, and the film won six of its 33 award nominations, including an Oscar nomination for Best Achievement in Visual Effects.

Education and early life

Lily and her four siblings were raised in Camberwell by their mother Lucy Keegan, a British artist, and their father Brooks Newmark, a British politician and former Member of Parliament; Lily’s aunt Rose Keegan is a famous British actress.

She studied at an elementary school in Sydenham prior to turning 12, when she and her family moved to Central London. She then attended Francis Holland School, and it was during her time there that Lily fell in love with acting, and went on to appear in numerous school plays, with her family supporting her dreams.

Lily matriculated in 2012, and in the same year launched her acting career, making her debut film appearance in the short drama “Morning After”; she then simultaneously acted and studied at East 15 Acting School, from which she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2016.

Roles in movies

The year 2013 saw Lily appear in both the short drama “Father Sculptor”, and the short comedy drama “Desire”. In 2014, she was cast to play the lead character Skye in the thriller “Return of the Ghost”, written and directed by Jason Wilcox, which also starred Jade Houghton, and follows a couple as they’re investigating a haunted house.

Lily could then have been seen starring in multiple music videos, such as the “iLL BLU: Lonely People feat. James Morrison”, “Brian Dead: A Darkness” and “Rejjie Snow: Blakkst Skn”, all released in 2015.

The year 2017 saw her play the lead character Iona in the popular drama “Pin Cushion”, written and directed by Deborah Howard, and which also starred Joanna Scanlan and Chanel Cresswell. It follows a mother and her teenage daughter who aren’t liked in their hometown, and have found comfort in an imaginary world of their own making; the movie won one of its 12 award nominations.

Lily’s also known for her portrayal of Carly in the 2018 musical comedy drama “Juliet, Naked”, directed by Jesse Peretz, and which starred Chris O’Dowd, Rose Byrne and Ethan Hawke. It follows the long-distance relationship of Annie and singer-songwriter Tucker Crowe, and the film won one of its six award nominations.

Lily’s three most recent film roles have been in 2020, in the  historical comedy drama “Misbehaviour” and the short adventure fantasy “Cursed: Teaser Promo”, and the 2021 romantic thriller drama “A Brixton Tale”.

Roles in TV series

Lily’s debut TV series appearance was in four episodes of the 2017 hit fantasy adventure drama “Emerald City”, created by Josh Friedman and Matthew Arnold, and which starred Adria Arjona, Oliver Jackson-Cohen and Ana Ularu. It’s a prequel to ‘The Wizard of Oz’ story, and the series was nominated for four awards.

Lily could then have been seen playing Coby in the 2018 episode “Nosebleed” of the drama mini-series “Shortflix”, and Sophie in a 2019 episode of the historical romantic mini-series “Les Miserables”.

In 2019 and 2020, she played Ruthie in the popular comedy drama “Sex Education”, which Laurie Nunn created, and which stars Ncuti Gatwa, Gillian Anderson and Asa Butterfield. It follows a teenager whose mother’s a sex therapist, and who’s now launched an underground sex therapy clinic together with his classmate at their school; the series has been airing since 2019, and has won 17 of its 79 award nominations.

Her three most recent TV series roles have been in 13 episodes of the crime thriller drama “Temple” between 2019 and 2021, two episodes of the 2021 mystery crime drama “Dalgliesh”, and the 2022 pilot episode of the drama “A Place of Safety”. Lily’s currently shooting for the upcoming mini-series “You & Me”.
