About LeBron James’ father, Anthony McClelland: Height, Age, Bio

Date:

Who is Anthony McClelland?

In 2007, a man named Leicester Bryce Stovell, a lawyer from Washington DC, USA, claimed that he’s the father of the famous basketball player, LeBron James, however, the Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) test showed that his claims were false.

LeBron James’ biological father is Anthony McClelland who appeared in his life briefly before he was imprisoned again. We say ‘again’, because he’s spent most of his life in jail, due to multiple run-ins with the law, including arson and theft.

There is no information regarding his age, nor where he was born, also nothing is known about his family.

We can’t say for sure that LeBron inherited his height from his father, or if it comes from his mother’s side, however, what we do know is that LeBron stands at the height of 6ft 9ins (2.06m).

How he met LeBron James’ mother? Were they married?

According to LeBron’s mother, Gloria Marie James, she met Anthony McClelland in high school, and the two dated, although it wasn’t a classic love relationship. They would occasionally have sex, and when Gloria found out that she was pregnant, Anthony left her.

She was 16 years old when she gave birth to their son, and Anthony was absent all the time from the day of his conception to the day when he suddenly came into LeBron’s life after more than 20 years.

You realize from the flow of the story that LeBron’s parents weren’t married, and that he was raised by his single mother.

Relationship with his son

Not so long ago, LeBron James posted on his Facebook status saying that he’s thankful for the absence of his father since that helped him to become the man he is today, adding that he managed to channel the negative energy, and grew up in a strong man.

LeBron isn’t the only boy left by Anthony McClelland – allegedly, LeBron has a half-brother, known as Aaron McClelland Gamble, who tried to contact LeBron, but he wasn’t interested in bonding with him.

Until today, LeBron also has no contact nor any relationship with his biological father.

Who is LeBron James?

LeBron Raymone James Senior, also referred to as ‘King James’, is someone who doesn’t have to be specially presented, since it’s widely considered one of the greatest basketball players of all time , often compared to outstanding Michael Jordan.

LeBron was born on 30 December 1984, in Akron, Ohio USA, where he was raised by his mother Gloria. She struggled to provide for the two of them, and as we know, misfortune does not come alone, few months after she gave birth to LeBron, Gloria lost her mother, and thus she had to take care of her two younger siblings as well.

They often moved, since Gloria couldn’t find a steady job, so when LeBron was nine, she let him move in with Frank Walker and his family. Frank was a local football coach, who introduced LeBron to basketball.

When LeBron was in fifth grade, he began playing organized basketball, and later played for Amateur Athletic Union (AAU). He attended St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in Akron, which was a college preparatory Catholic school with predominantly white students, which caused some local controversy, since LeBron is African-American.

However, as a freshman, LeBron showed his basketball skills playing for the school’s team, and with his help, the team finished the season undefeated. He was named ‘Ohio Mr. Basketball’, and become the first boy in sophomore year to be selected for USA Today All-USA First Team, the newspaper that awards outstanding high school basketball players annually.

Professional career

LeBron began his professional basketball career as the first overall pick of the 2003 National Basketball Association (NBA) draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers, and in the season 2003-2004, he received the NBA Rookie of the Year Award.

In the following season, LeBron earned his first NBA All-Star Game selection, and many sports analysts say that this period was his rise to stardom.

On 8 July 2010, LeBron announced that he would be signing for the Miami Heat NBA team – his leaving of Cavaliers was criticized by every side, including the fans, sports analysts, and even his former players, and hHe quickly become one of the most disliked athletes.

The 2010-2011 season was a year of fan and media scrutiny for LeBron, who was painted as a villain. In December he faced his former team for the first time after he left, and although he led Miami Heat to win, the audience booed him every time he touched the ball.

In 2014, he returned to Cleveland Cavaliers, where he stayed until 2018 when he signed with Los Angeles Lakers, for which team he currently plays.

Personal life

James hasn’t been the subject of any rumors and controversies concerning his love life, since it’s widely known that he married his high school girlfriend, Savannah Brinson. The two exchanged their wedding vows on 14 September 2013, in the Grand Del Mar’s Capella Chapel, in San Diego, California in the presence of about 200 guests. A huge surprise for both bride and the guests were Beyonce and Jay Z, who performed their song “Crazy in Love”.

LeBron and his wife welcomed their first son LeBron ‘Bronny’ James Junior on 6 October 2004, who’s followed in his father’s footsteps, and is today a high school basketball player.

If you wondered about the wealth LeBron James has accumulated thanks to his talent for playing basketball, let us tell you that he is officially a billionaire. In June 2022, Forbes estimated that he has a net worth of $1 billion, which makes him the first active NBA player who made it to the billionaires’ list.

Most of the income he has earned through his business ventures and endorsements, and when it comes to his salary, he has earned over $385 million playing for the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat and Los Angeles Lakers.
