Who is Aisling Franciosi?

Aisling was born in Dublin, Ireland, on 6 June 1993 – her zodiac sign’s Gemini, and she holds Irish nationality. She’s an actress with more than 20 credits to her name, perhaps known best for her portrayal of the lead character Claire in the 2018 adventure thriller movie “The Nightingale”, written and directed by Jennifer Kent, and which also starred Maya Christie and Baykali Ganambarr. Set in 1825, the film follows young Irish convict Clare as she’s chasing a British officer who has caused her family great harm; it won 25 of the 62 awards for which it was nominated.

Early life and education

Aisling was raised in Dublin alongside her younger sister and two older brothers, by their Italian father who’s a surgeon, and their Irish mother who’s a former teacher; not a lot else is known about Aisling’s family, as she respects their privacy.

She grew up being interested in learning languages, and is today fluent in English, Irish Gaelic and Italian. Aisling’s debut film appearance was her portrayal of Marie in the popular 2014 biographical historical drama “Jimmy’s Hall”, directed by Ken Loach, and which starred Barry Ward, Francis Magee and Aileen Henry. Set during the Depression, the film follows Jimmy Gralton who’s returned home to Ireland after having been exiled for 10 years, and it won two of the five awards for which it was nominated.

Three of Aisling’s following roles were in the 2014 short historical mystery “Ambition”, the 2016 short horror “The Sticks”, and the 2020 drama “Home”.

She played Katherine Malcolm in the 2021 crime drama “The Unforgivable”, directed by Nora Fingscheidt, and which starred Sandra Bullock, Viola Davis and Vincent D’Onofrio. It follows a woman who’s just been released from prison, and is struggling to live with people who refuse to forgive her for her past crimes; the movie won four of the nine awards for which it was nominated.

Aisling’s most recent film role has been her portrayal of Sarah Murphy in the 2022 drama “God’s Creatures”, while she’s currently shooting for three upcoming movies: “Last Voyage of the Demeter”, “Stopmotion” and “Rothko”.
